Polis: 'That's what my plan to do as Governor is'..
Rep. Jared Polis, the Democratic nominee for governor of Colorado, suggested that he would support criminal penalties for employers who violate the state's labor laws.
...
we propose adding real criminal penalties to violations of our labor laws. That's when executives and businesses will notice it. When they don't see it as a cost of doing business, but they see it as "Wait a minute, I could go to prison for doing wrong by the workers, and wage theft, or for firing somebody for retribution." So we can do that here in Colorado.
We can really push the envelope in making sure we are serious. As serious about enforcing our labor laws as we are about so many of our other laws. So that's what my plan to do as Governor is. I look forward to working with the legislature to get working on these bills and making sure we take implementation and enforcement seriously at all levels, and support workers when they choose to organize.

Gail Lindley, owner of Denver Bookbinding, which has been in business for 90 years, said Polis's comments were irresponsible.
...
"Most small businesses are mom and pop' type. That's the basis of our economy. And to even propose that criminal time be served is ludicrous. Irresponsible, ludicrous, and it just makes me think he's on a power trip."

Polis has long been ranked as one of the 10 wealthiest persons in Congress

That's what I was wondering too.
I was going to ask the same question.
Yep. And they know when and when not to advertise it. The old lady I spoke with acted disgusted but she was deceived and had already voted for him.
I lived in Colorado in the early 80s, it was a great place to live then. The looney toons in Boulder were the only nutjobs in the state. Unfortunately, they eventually took over a once great state.
I was planning on retiring in Colorado, no way now.
“he would support criminal penalties for employers who violate the state’s labor laws.”
The rhetoric before the election is getting red hot, so allow me to propose the summary execution of Colorado governors.
At least he knows what he’s shopping for...
The Western Slope is still pretty conservative. Scott Tipton covers the whole western third of the state and he will beat the Dem. challenger in that House district.
Our problem is that Bolder and Denver and places in between outnumber us.
I was born in Colo in 1951 and it’s definitely gone to hell. Too much Californication.
I’m planning on leaving either shortly before or at retirement time. I made a commitment to my company and the customer, so I’m here for a few more years...
And I thought IL, CA, NY, etc., were business unfriendly...
Well hopefully this will turn a lot of business owners against the sleazy b@stard, and cost him a lot of votes.
Except for hiring an illegal alien, of course. Those laws are all okay to break. In fact, if business owners *don't* break them, they'll be jailed.
Polis is a crazy red, which for Colorado, makes him an ideal Democrat.
Hope the good people of Colorado have enough sense to send this wacko back to the loony bin. Otherwise, I can see businesses heading for warmer climates, say in Texas.
Wow. That’ll fire up the CO small business economy.
Bravo...and on the first reply.
Outstanding, FRiend!
“Obey the law. All laws.”
I can’t go along with that until about ninety nine percent are repealed or nullified. It is clearly IMPOSSIBLE to obey all laws now, even attorneys who specialize in one niche of the law cannot keep up with all the laws that are on the books, many of which are simply ignored because they make no sense but it takes too long and is too difficult to repeal them. We need to do with laws what Trump has done with regulations but anyone who proposes a new law should have to submit one hundred or more to be repealed. If all the laws could be enforced we would have to repeal most of them because everything would grind to a halt.
So when the business closes, that should really help the employees. How is the State doing with Denny’s, by the way? That looks like a real success story there.
