The democrats will be able to make more noise, but they won’t be able to make law. Trump will still be Potus, R’s gained in the Senate putting an end to the likes of Susan Collins as Kingmaker, and there will likely be another Scotus opening in his first term and the Dems will be powerless to stop it.
Smoke and noise lasts a few news cycles or even a few months, but Trump’s nominees to the judiciary are going to have impact for decades.
Republicans seriously need to get a handle on local politics though.
They will immediately launch numerous investigations. By midsummer they will launch an impeachment that will be 24/7 on the news until the election cycle begins. Foreign policy will grind to a stop. And they will crash the economy. They can do a hell of a lot more than just make noise.
FROM ANOTHER THREAD and FREEPER willk:
First midterm election for new President:
Clinton 1994
House -54
Senate -8
Obama 2010
House -63
Senate -6
Trump 2018
House -30 (roughly)
Senate +4 or +5
Obama and Clinton didnt have to deal with 40 anti-Trumpers retiring. Otherwise Trump would have probably maintained the house too.
Yep - all the Dems can really do is insure trump in a landslide in 2020 and 60/40 in the senate and a 60 seat cushion in the House.
Good comment, bigbob.
And the fact that we feel relief that the SC is safe proves how lawless our country truly is.
We have a long ways to go. The House flip and close races for Governor show the Dem machine is still strong and the BLEXIT and walkaway only made baby steps so far.
The Senate gain proves the country’s voting direction is right. But way too much corrupt government and swamp animals. Long road ahead.
Trump needs to groom leaders like himself. Scott of Florida is a big win for us because he is future POTUS material.
Who do we have for 2024? Time for FReepers to discuss that.
“...The democrats will be able to make more noise, but they wont be able to make law. ...”
THE single most important take-away from this. Thanks for spotlighting it so succinctly.
Our judges will be pushed through and confirmed, while the dems bellow, bluster and thrash.
Smoke and noise lasts a few news cycles or even a few months, but Trumps nominees to the judiciary are going to have impact for decades.
That is the real wave across America.
Maybe now the executive branch can concentrate on reigning in all these alphabet agencies.
