Six Off-Duty Police Officers Were Inside Borderline Bar When Shooting Started

THOUSAND OAKS, California — Six off-duty police officers were inside the Borderline Bar & Grill on Wednesday night when a gunman opened fire on those present.

Twelve people were killed as the gunman, who has been identified as David Ian Long, attacked the bar using a smoke device and a .45-caliber handgun. Many of those present were young people, on hand for “college night.”

Captain Garo Kuredjian, Media Relations Officer for the Ventura County Police Department, told Breitbart News on the scene that there had been three officers from the Oxnard Police Department and three from the Los Angeles Police Department inside the Borderline, all off duty.

They were likely unarmed, he said, though he could not yet confirm that information, nor could he yet say if and how they had assisted victims or confronted the gunman.

“Typically, if you go to a bar, if you’re going to be drinking,” you would leave your gun at home, Kuredjian said.

“I thought all cops off duty still carried.”

Most leave it in their car when they know they’re going to get drunk. That way they can drive home drunk with impunity.

In all seriousness, even cops know they aren’t very smart when drunk and don’t want to risk their career over something trivial.

My understanding, which is secondhand, was that they are supposed to carry off duty, unless they're going drinking, in which case they're not supposed to carry.

Thank You, insurance companies.

For those unfamiliar with Southern California, very nearby Simi Valley is where policemen and their families live in droves! A large part of the community is affiliated with LE in some way.

I was where the trial for the officers in the Rodney King case took place.

You see a lot of police officers off duty in that area.

Here in DC we are required to carry at all times except when drinking alcohol at a bar or exercising at a gym etc. I m sure it is the same elsewhere. They should had at least one manager or bar tender to be armed at all times.

Seems everyone follows the law except those that don’t which causes harm to those that do. No law written on paper can prevent crime.

“They probably were carrying, but looking frantically for an exit or hiding under a table.”

Cheap shot

In most states you can carry in a bar as long as you aren’t consuming alcohol.

Most bars do not allow anyone to carry firearms on the premises, even LEO. Some states have a law against carrying a firearm in a bar as well. So that makes bars a gun free zone like schools, otherwise known as targets.

Realistically, your best chance of surviving a mass shooting when unarmed is to run away.

“So, none of them was the designated driver? Uber for the cops?”

You don’t know and you have no damn clue.

LIke the cop who got shot and killed trying to take the perp out?

I have a suggestion. Next time you’re home watching an NFL game, and they’re playing the National Anthem, take a knee. You’ll fit right in.

They probably were carrying, but looking frantically for an exit or hiding under a table.

It was pretty crowded in there, with a pressing crowd I would think the odds were pretty low on getting a good shot right away.

When the hell are gun control laws going to be taken off the books? They don’t work, never have and never will. The 2nd. Amendment gives us all the right to be armed without infringement.

The Second Amendment doesn’t give us that right; it protects that right.
