We are former attorneys general. We salute Jeff Sessions.
The Washington Post ^ | November 7, 2018 | William P. Barr , Edwin Meese III and Michael B. Mukasey

Posted on 11/10/2018 6:43:59 AM PST by lyby

Sessions set four goals for his tenure: to reduce the rates of murder, violent crime generally, opioid prescription fraud and drug overdose deaths. He achieved all four... just as impressive has been the refocusing of the department’s efforts under Sessions’s leadership to protect the liberties of Americans.

The senator honorably recused himself from the Russia probe to not bring any further legal damage toward Trump and his administration, which was the smartest move he could’ve made under those circumstances.

After he was confirmed AG he:

1. Was against DOJ intervention in local police matters - Ferguson comes to mind.
2. Changed DOJ position on transgender federal employees to not come to their aid legally
3. Invoked Federal supremacy toward states whose uninformed voters had voted for Marijuana legalization in its various forms
4.Defended Trump via zero tolerance policies for illegal border crossings, even if it caused backlash later due to the family separation BS.

The dude has done more than any other Trump cabinet picks - it’s unfortunate that Freepers focus on emotional what-ifs (no better than libs) rather than bona fide achievements.

Goal #1 should have been Drain the Swamp
Goal #2 see goal #1

Jeff Sessions refusal to prosecute his deep state buddies will be answered by God. He has done far more evil than any communist democrat

I believe he did exactly what he was hired to do - be a low-key bad guy to keep a cushion between some of the worst corruption ever and the light of day while investigations were ongoing and the time was right for all of it to surface. An elder statesman who recused himself was the perfect foil.

Sessions was a mixed bag. He did a number of good things as others in the thread have noted.

But two major failures were in the area of upholding the rule of law and investigating and prosecuting partisan government corruption.

The reason a mob was emboldened to go to Tucker Carlson’s home was because the Department of Justice has neglected to uphold the civil rights of the victims of antifa and BLM.

Authorities in places like Oakland and Charlottesville protect and enable antifa rioters and the DOJ has done nothing to protect the civil rights of their victims.

Undoubtedly it is because the victims are considered ‘icky’ white nationalists or some other characterization not in the view of the DOJ worthy of having civil rights.

Also, the DOJ failed spectacularly in prosecuting the rioters in DC following the Trump inauguration. They ended up with numerous acquittals and had to drop charges against many others. By overcharging some who were just bystanders they actually engendered sympathy for other actual rioters. It also raises the question as to whether it is possible to get jury verdicts against either leftwing rioters or even corrupt leftwing government officials from juries in Washington DC which voted 96% for Hillary and where radical opinions are widespread.

And of course, not to mention the recusal which was ridiculously sweeping and premature and allowed the deep state to start or continue fraudulent investigations against Trump people for corrupt political purposes.

I do not have any need to defend or attack Sessions, but I would appreciate it if somebody could show me how he was supposed to “drain the swamp”.

He simply never would have been confirmed without his recusal. The president knew that and every single one of his dear friends and colleagues in the Senate knew that. By now we should all know that they would have done him like Judge Kavanaugh!

“Indict Hillary!” — I love the idea of putting that old Hag in jail, but if anyone here thinks that would accomplish anything, please tell me. I would like to know. However I must discount any idea that amounts to deterrence.

“Fire Mueller!” - - The Russia collusion investigation has been a distraction for the unhinged left while Trump has gone about doing real things that they cannot stop. Am I being asked to believe that firing Mueller renders the deep state powerless? They now are going to just give up and go away?!

I know that there are a lot us on FR that want to win symbolic victories, but I think that there is real work to be done and I need someone to show me how the new AG is going to be the one to do it.

I can only shake my head and remember fondly the in-depth discussions that took place in an earlier version of FR.

Yeah, I remember it, too...during Clinton's impeachment, Sore Loserman, the TEA Party, etc. The focus was on beating the Democrats, now it's on defeating anyone who's not completely on the Trump Train. It's become an echo chamber.

Those days are long gone, never to return.

Objectives of next AG need to be:
1. Restore election integrity (without which the country is lost)
2. Restore the rule of law (fire all DOJ/FBI partisans, no-one is too big to be prosecuted for crimes)
3. Prosecute all coup conspirators

Those should have been the goals of the last AG. He might have taken a baby step or two on #2, but that's it. His main accomplishments were rearranging a couple of deck chairs on the Titanic when he had the materials on hand to start patching the hole from the iceberg.

He was hired and PAID to do a job. Upon being hired, he immediately recused himself from doing his job.

Oh... but he still got full pay for 2 years....

For heaven’s sake folks, whose job is it to indict people who have clearly broken the law at the federal level?

There are probably at least a dozen people that are indictable, perhaps many more.

The man didn’t indict one person.

That was also his mandate.

What is more important than taking government criminals down?
