Florida attorney general directs law enforcement to take steps to ‘guarantee integrity' in elections

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi (R) said Sunday that she is directing the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to take steps to "guarantee integrity in our elections process" amid Republican accusations of voter fraud in two counties in the state.

Bondi's directive comes after the FDLE said Friday that it hadn't launched an investigation into election officials in Broward and Palm Beach counties because there was no evidence of fraud.

Bondi wrote in a letter to FDLE commissioner Rick Swearingen that she doesn't see how the FDLE "can legitimately refuse" to open an investigation.

“I fail to see how the Florida Department of Law Enforcement can legitimately refuse to investigate where there is reasonable suspicion that may lead to the discovery of criminal conduct of the 2018 election — actions that gravely damage Floridians’ confidence in our electoral process and our democracy," she wrote

“Waaaaay too late!”

Bondi’s been busy tracking down the old codger with an extra pain pill in the medicine cabinet - and telling everyone about it on cable TV.

Trump needs to keep that woman as far away from his administration as possible. She's no good.

I have zero sympathy for the Republican candidates

What about the rest of us Americans who will pay for it? These are not just local offices, their federal. It's not just the candidates, it the whole country.

...guarantee integrity...

Guarantee integrity, my ass. That whole state system is corrupt and has been for many years. They must like it that way?

Scott could have fired the Broward sheriff and elections clerk but must have feared doing so would cost him votes.

Do you think that Trumps new Attorney General will step in quickly? I hope President Trump orders him to do so.

I hope that the AG department sends a whole squadron of people down to Florida, takes down the names of EVERYONE who handled the votes, takes them to be questioned individually and of course get ALL of the votes and locks them up until this whole quagmire is sorted out. Then comes the jail time are merited.

We’ve had 18 YEARS since that debacle in the presidential election in Florida. A reasonable person might have mistakenly thought they had overplayed their hand THAT year. But, no. Still at at. No new controls in place. Nice.

She’s a little late, isn’t she ?

I think she’s done in Trump’s eyes. She had a pivotal job last week in FL and she totally blew it. I should say, she had a pivotal job 2 years ago when a judge said Snipes broke the law and the AG of FL (Bondi) did absolutely nothing.

Oh boy.

I guess this is going to fix it so they can’t steal this election.

I am very relieved.

Good thing someone has done this.

Someone has taken a stand.

I am sure she will take all kinds of actions to ensure the integrity of elections.

We shall probably see some sternly worded letters too. As a bonus.

It’s a nice dream, but that is all it is. Remember, we’ve been here before with the whole country watching. And nothing came of it. In fact the same players are still there.

Heck, I’m hoping the courts throw out all the Broward votes for a process that broke several laws!

Not a Florida court, of course. I’m crazy- but not that crazy.

15 years ago I read about Republicans having an agreement with Democrats not to go after Democrat election/voter fraud. The Establishment Uniparty lives on.

Bingo.

All we needed was another politician as AG; whose only job would be to protect the DOJ.

That horse has already left the barn. Snipes has totally corrupted the Broward County vote. How is a recount going to resolve that?
