PARADISE, Calif. The dead were found in burned-out cars, in the smoldering ruins of their homes, or next to their vehicles, apparently overcome by smoke and flames before they could jump in behind the wheel and escape. In some cases, there were only charred fragments of bone, so small that coroner's investigators used a wire basket to sift and sort them.
At least 29 people were confirmed dead in the wildfire that turned the Northern California town of Paradise and outlying areas into hell on earth, equaling the deadliest blaze in state history, and the search for bodies continued Monday.

Glad to hear that. You must be greatly relieved.
You might want to see if any of the recommendations in this article would be practical for you, to make your home safer in the event of another wildfire:

That is so sad.
Sad.
I read there were some dead in S. CA too.
May God have mercy on their souls and comfort those left behind.
Wasn’t there a freeper who said he b lives in Chico? I understand the fire is now close to Chico.
It's real. The man who wrote it is a personal friend.
The rich and famous will be on TV asking the rest of the country, and the taxpayers, to rebuild their mansions.
"Residents...questioned the strategy behind the battle against the Woolsey Fire... said she didn't see firefighters in Malibu."
Insurance should cover most of it. Years ago, people in areas of “declared” disasters could get low interest disaster loans to cover the deductibles. Maybe they still can.
THanking God with you that your home was not torched.
Stay in touch.
Yes it is so sad....just horrible.
Is there any sign - does anybody know - that the winds are dying down?
I did not read that but hopefully that Freeper will see this article and let us know how they are doing.
The only comments I saw in the article were about the safety of firemen and students at Pepperdine. I didn’t see any complaints about people losing their homes.
I cant even imagine the horror and fear they felt.
The "berating" quote was ""We love our firemen, but its not safe for them out there, now," the woman said. "We need way more."
Mansions, or even houses, weren't mentioned.
I can’t either. It is just beyond my comprehension to witness this death and destruction and it just doesn’t seem to stop.
I am in NC and we deal with hurricanes and, occasionally, with tornadoes.
But these are over with in a day or two.
This tragedy just continues and continues and continues....
Mindboggling and extremely saddening...prayers for all those who have lost everything, especially those who have lost their very lives or those of their relatives and friends.

The meeting lasted several hours and though many questions were left unanswered, officials will work to make sure that problems that existed during the Woolsey Fire can be remedied or avoided.
Malibites are the biggest jerks on the face of the planet. All they do is wheedle, whine, and make demands.
[FReepers from there excepted of course]
You are a very nice person to give them the benefit of the doubt.

It’s really hard to believe that there is loss of human life in these fires. Why aren’t they leaving sooner??
