Multiple people reported shot in 'active shooter' near Mercy Hospital on South Side (Chicago)

Authorities were reporting multiple victims in an “active shooter” attack in the area of Mercy Hospital on the Near South Side that brought out a large police presence Monday afternoon. Emergency crews were called to near the hospital, 2525 S. Michigan Ave., about 3:20 p.m. There were “reports of multiple victims” in the attack, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a tweet. Fire officials called an emergency medical services Plan II, sending at least 10 ambulances to the scene, because of an “active shooter” situation, a Fire Department spokesman said. A hospital employee said she was in her office when a notice came over a public address system telling those in the hospital to lock their doors. They were later evacuated and people were put on CTA buses as authorities dealt with the situation. “I don’t know what happened,” she said as she was ushered onto a bus. “They told us to run so we did,” one hospital employee said. Authorities were warning people to stay out of the area. Fire crews were at the scene. Check back for updates.

FYI it hurt like Hell !!! The Nurse was hitting Me up in the elevator with Morphine in My Pick Line on the way to Surgery. And it helped but still hurt BAD !!!

Ah, good point. Could be incidental casualties during a targeted mission. Hence, this could be another incident inflated as “mass” when it is really just another shooting.

Sadly, a newly minted police officer and father of 4 was slain, as was an innocent woman who was just getting off an elevator, and the shooter’s ex-fiancee, a doctor. I understand why some POS would kill his ex but why try to slaughter others? Didn’t he get the memo that midterms are over and the Brady campaign doesn’t need his help anymore?

I had an internet friend on a message board long long ago. We lost touch, years later I found out he and his girlfriend were murdered by her ex.

My grade school principal was murdered by his mistresses estranged husband.

As officers arrived on the scene the male subject fatally shot his ex-fiancee, who was a doctor at the hospital. He then ran into the hospital with officers pursuing him. As they entered the hospital the man exchanged shots with Officer Jimenez, striking him and a bystander. The subject was also shot and killed during the exchange.

Best link. Dead shooter named and photo; dead doctor named and photo. Pharmacy technician not yet ID’d but reported that she just stepped off an elevator where he was wildly shooting. Reports a SWAT officer took him out with one to the head to stop the carnage. He had shot the ex-fiance 6 times in the parking lot, then entered the hospital firing.
