Jewish leaders call for the Bible and the Koran to carry warnings of anti-Semitic passages

Jewish leaders are calling for new editions of the Bible and Koran to carry warning messages which highlight anti-Semitic passages in the holy texts.

The recommendations have been made in a new document called ‘An End to Antisemitism! A Catalogue of Policies to Combat Antisemitism’.

It was produced following an international conference organised by the European Jewish Congress, at which academics gathered to discuss how prejudice and discrimination can be tackled.

Among the policies mentioned in the document was the idea of warning messages in holy texts, a topic discussed in a chapter entitled 'recommendations regarding Religious Groups and Institutions'.

The document reads: 'Translations of the New Testament, the Qur’an and other Christian or Muslim literatures need marginal glosses, and introductions that emphasize continuity with Jewish heritage of both Christianity and Islam and warn readers about antisemitic passages in them.

'While some efforts have been made in this direction in the case of Christianity, these efforts need to be extended and made consistent in both religions.'

There are several themes in the New Testament that have come under fire for their use as justification for anti-Semitic attitudes.

These include the blame of Jews for the death of Jesus and the seemingly stubborn nature of the Jewish people and their disloyalty to God.

While there are some negative remarks about Jews in the Koran, and negative portrayals of the people.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has previously spoken of how religious texts can be exploited or misinterpreted to promote discriminatory attitudes.

Many Jewish people taught to believe the New Testament is anti Semitic report reading it and discovering the truth.

And that is in their opinion, what?

I assume that it is a lie, but I'm the kind that seeks confirmation because I hate to assume.

Like the death of innocents ...

“Every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn of the slave girl...”

The justification for these changes, the documents states, is because divine messages are always communicated through human beings and therefore subject to error.

This attitude would not just apply to the anti Semitic passages it should put all religious texts in every religion under suspicion.
Maybe the ten commandments should be revised?
What about all that angel stuff Muslims and Christians seem to be into? -Tom

Technically incorrect. Arabs, the Ishmaelites that is, are half-Semite and half-Hamite if traced directly to Ishmael, and may be more Hamite than Semite considering Ishmael’s spouses.

They realize it’s not anti-Semitic.

Everybody who ever lived, died. Everybody now alive, will die. Everyone who lives after us, will die.

It is way of all flesh.

Not only do we individually die, but there are total die-offs, mass extinction events. That's our reality on this planet.

I don't think death by flood, one of nature's processes, qualifies as an atrocity. Death just happens. It's equal opportunity. The only thing different about the Flood in Noah's time, is that God saw fit to rescue life on earth.

Innocents because you say they are? Many of those you name were adults.

Besides, God as the the one who imparts life has the absolute right to take life away.

Why are you as an unbeliever trolling on a thread concerning belief? Never mind FR openly proclaiming itself to be a pro-God website.

That is not literally claimed therein.

The word “Christian” didn’t appear until much later, in Antioch; those who followed Jesus were called Nazarenes at first. Not to mention, as the Messiah, he presents himself as a central character of the Scriptures.

Seems to me that if a guy said “There’s no way over this raging river except a bridge,” (and it was true) and then he said “And here’s the bridge for everyone and for free, -— and I want you to tell everyone about it,” that would be a good thing, wouldn’t it?

At least, for everyone who wanted to get across the river.

Is this like an FDA-style black box warning on cigarettes and on certain medicines that have risky side-effects?

These Jews apparently do not know who butter’s their bread... And it ain’t mohammedeans.

Just read in Romans how the gospel was sent to the gentiles to provoke the Jews to jealousy, and thereby seek Christ themselves.

Same perspective applies. People die. Not only the firstborn of the Egyptian people, but all living things that are born, die.

All the Jewish people in that passage eventually died, too.

What you're dealing with in a natural sense of "Something's wrong here." But the problem isn't that Egyptians die, but that Moses dies, Aaron and Miriam die. The whole lot of them, the Hebrews who let Egypt--- over two million --- eventually died.

That's the problem, isn't it?

Are you looking for a solution?

How is THAT Anti-Semitic? You don't stop being a Semite by becoming a Christian.

And --- back to a previous topic --- then you overcome death.

You seem to think death itself is the Enemy. And you know what? You're right.

"For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. "

"When the perishable
has been clothed with the imperishable
and the mortal with immortality,
then the saying that is written
will come to pass:
“Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”

That's why they call it Good News.

In context helps. When Jesus came, it was to unite the Jews and the Gentiles. Jesus shed his blood for ALL.

God does not give preference to those who received the law, but will judge according to the gospel. (Romans 2:10-16)

Exactly, and he refers to them in many ways because they are stiff necked and keep thinking they are the only ones God will favor. Even in the NT it refers to the only covenant between God and a faith but it is NOT a get out of jail free card, Gentiles are grafted into the “olive tree” and branches that do not produce fruit are cut off. Since they do not accept the payment for the sins by Faith in his son Jesus they are then judged by their works, hence the number of 144,000 of that faith that will be saved.
