U.S.-Mexico border reopens after clash with migrants prompts five-hour closure

The U.S.-Mexico border at the San Ysidro Port of Entry was closed for more than five hours on Sunday after hundreds of migrants rushed the area, prompting federal authorities to launch tear gas in an apparent attempt to get the group to disperse.

Federal authorities said the migrants tried to breach the border at multiple locations, leading to a number of assaults on Customs and BP personnel and dozens of arrests...[snip]

The confrontations highlighted escalating tensions as thousands of migrants from Central America poured into Tijuana seeking U.S. asylum. President Trump has pushed to keep any migrants in Mexico as they await the immigration process.

... the Mexican Interior Ministry announced it would deport about 500 migrants who tried to “violently” and “illegally” cross the border.... authorities were reviewing videotape of the confrontations at the border and would be detaining and deporting those involved.

... despite heightened tensions there, Mexico would not send military forces to control the thousands of migrants from a caravan amassed at the border....[snip]

The San Ysidro border crossing is one of the busiest ports of entry in the world, with more than 90,000 people crossing ....[snip]... members of the group clashed with Mexican federal police in riot gear before rushing into a concrete canal... a group of about 50 people managed to run past police to a small hole in the border fence. A helicopter circled overhead as some in the group threw rocks at agents on the other side and pulled at the structure.

Federal officials said migrants attempted to enter the U.S. at multiple locations along the border as well as through freeway lanes at the port of entry.

During the altercations, migrants threw projectiles at Customs and BP personnel and multiple agents were hit with rocks, federal officials said. Authorities deployed pepper balls and tear gas canisters to get people to disperse...[snip] Tijuana Municipal Police detained 39 people, including 15 Mexicans and 24 Hondurans....

DHS Secretary Nielsen said on Twitter that federal officials will “prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone who destroys federal property, endangers our frontline operators, or violates our sovereignty.”

Tijuana Mayor Gastelum also took to Twitter saying, “We will not allow our binational relationship to be broken by the bad behavior of the migrant caravan.” "Tijuana residents who “work, study and visit the United States in peace” were affected by the closure.

Customs and BP had deployed additional personnel to the border due to multiple planned protests on both sides including CBP officers, U.S. BP agents and Air and Marine agents recently sent to the region.

San Diego police also readied on-duty officers Sunday afternoon to respond to the border if needed....[snip]

Dozens of arrests made is a start. Hopefully, they result in immediate deportation.

Reports from inside the groups say they will try again 10am monday.
If so i hope the border gets shut down no less than 24 hours.
And if it continues to happen longer shutdowns.

if the invaders are permanently denied entry, mexico has plenty of expenses; a taste of their own medicine.

We have a huge ongoing problem from Central America. This is a very good article by the Washington Post. Realize the murder rate in Central America is at a 17 year LOW. Only a tiny percentage of them would qualify for asylum. A few facts reprinted from the article.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/faced-with-migration-crisis-us-border-chief-finds-no-easy-fix-in-central-america/2018/09/30/b3cad7d4-c327-11e8-b338-a3289f6cb742_story.html

“In August, 12,774 migrant family members were taken into custody along the Mexico border, a 38% jump from the previous month, and agents say September’s numbers appear to be headed even higher.”

“Guatemalans send home nearly $9 billion a year in remittances, ... twice as much as they did a decade ago.”

” The US deported 333 underage Guatemalans between January and August. Mexico... deported 7,910....”

“The US sent back 524 children / teens to Central America between January and August, while Mexico deported 14,499.”

“only 1.4 percent of the family members who entered the US illegally during 2017 have been returned to their home countries. The vast majority remain waiting for their asylum cases to be adjudicated, but an immigration court backlog of nearly 750,000 cases means it may be years before they appear before a judge.”

“an especially large increase in the number of adult men arriving with children, from 7,896 in 2016 to 16,667 in 2017. DHS officials have documented a threefold increase in fraud cases of migrants claiming to be the parents of children who are not their own.”

Meanwhile it becomes increasingly difficult for any to claim this is a “migration” instead of an “invasion”

There is the answer. Stop the remittances. Label them as money laundering. There are many other things you could do but this would be a start.

Allow U.S citizens , armed with deer rifles , to station along the border in over-watch positions and a green light to fire on invaders , with no restrictions , arrests or prosecutions .

DHS officials have documented a threefold increase in fraud cases of migrants claiming to be the parents of children who are not their own.

This is why they are separated at the border.....to identify the fraud.

And remember, the migrants calculatedly use kid-fraud b/c it increases their freebies substantially----especially those EITC checks.

The 9-ring circus can’t do squat.

POTUS can shut the border, as needed.

DHS or BP can also shut it down with ‘readiness exercises’ which could last 20 minutes or some long hours.

Immigration can process a few or a few hundred applications per day.

A kid in tow gets them a guaranteed IN as opposed to a likely deportation.

Guatemalans arrested at the U.S. border have doubled. Hunger, not violence, fuels Guatemala migration surge. The smuggling guides charge $10,000 to capitalize on the dysfunction of the American immigration system.

“They say that if you bring a child they’ll let you into the US and give you citizenship,” describing the sales pitch from coyotes, “Now they’re saying pregnant women will also get citizenship.” Smugglers say this on local radio stations.

Because our court system is very slow, they have a false promise of being able to stay in the U.S. for a year or two before being repatriated.
