Beto O'Rourke leaves door open to 2020 presidential run
CNN ^ | November 26, 2018 | Eric Bradner

Democratic Rep. Beto O'Rourke is changing his tune about the possibility of running for president in 2020.

Prior to his narrow loss in the Texas US Senate race to Republican Ted Cruz, O'Rourke had repeatedly insisted he would not run for president.

Now, he's leaving the door open.

He said Monday he will finish his term in the House in January and focus with his wife and children on "being together as a family" until then.

Now wait a minute - he had a run-in with the Law so that kind of qualifies as a legal background or experience, right?

Speaking of which I'm sure another DUI is in his near future so no real worries about a high-profile future campaign... his skateboard seems smarter than he is... "Skateboard, 2020!"

I’d be thrilled if Beato ran for President in 2020. That means he won’t be challenging Cornyn or Cornyn’s surrogate (Abbott?) for his U.S. Senate seat in 2020 which he could possibly win.

It would be a classic case of somebody reaching too high for something he can’t win instead of taking the winnable and waiting his turn.

As for Cruz, too much can happen between now and 2024 to be concerned at this point. Wouldn’t shock me if Cruz was primaried in 2024 by George P. (remember Cruz made his name by upsetting a Bushie named Dewhurst back in 2012).

I’ve always loved Ted Cruz (lady crush here) because he has a scintillating mind and gracious manner and he does come across as a real Peace Maker. I was planning to vote for him, too, then The Donald took the lead by beating down Hitlery. To the best of my re-call Ted never tangled with the BeastyHitlery in media & if so I stand to be corrected.

Ted needs to spiff up , get his arse in gear, “change the oil (in the hair) & get out there in Texas & bang it down & save his seat for the next time around.

Perhaps I’m not reading the news right but he’s been awful quiet in the news. For a man who appears in any presence he could be likened to a conservatie SJW but to my eyes he ain’t doin’ shite.

CRUZ doesn’t seem to actively involved with the Border Crisis.

wtf?

I wonder why

Beto totally reminds me of our little friend to the northern
border.....the infamous “Jussie” Trudeau

Beto will never ever “get” Texas & go to WASH DC
Beto’s looks are unfortunate with all those prominating front teeth. He needs to get some extractions from the back of his mouth & a comfortable set of neutral looking everyday braces.

If Beto thinks he can skate on his looks he is sorely mistaken.

Gawd.......he’s such a creature.... not good at all imho

Who cares?

What we already know about 2016:
Democrats will run someone Kennedy-esque, or Obama-esque, or a Hillary-like political machine, who will lie, exploit identity politics, promote “free stuff”, and get out the vote using lots of text messages.

The only questions:
* Will the GOP fight for and implement Trump’s agenda and unify around its continuation?
* Will the GOP prosecute corrupt Spy-gate and Email-gate Democrats?
* Will the GOP stop voter fraud?

Though Beto fell 219,000 votes short of unseating TCruz, the media and the legions of Beto supporters (and there are a huge number) still wait around in amazement for Beto’s latest pronouncements. Cruz defeated him with the support of rural voters but did not in any way extinguish Beto-mania. This force will be back, and we may not be able to defeat it again.

This time it’s the losing candidate who gets the post-election adoration. The winner has just gone off to whimper.

I’m surprised he’s going the Mexican route. He should have claimed to be Robert Kennedys love child. The Demonrats and press would eat that up.

He's been told he has that Kennedy boyish Irish charm (snix)

Democrats are suckers for the JFK mystique.

And, sure and begorrah, Beto is a Bobby look-alike (smirk).

“Or is he now damaged goods and Texans will need to find a replacement? Just looking ahead.”

Beto was the left’s best shot at exploiting what is typically a time of complacency by the incumbent party during midterms. They failed.

Cruz has solid support. Sure, there are exceptionally idiotic anti-Cruz Republican voters who are just as worthless as the GOPe that largely supports their anti-Cruz agenda, as does the radical left.

More than two thirds of the senate Republicans are somewhat or very moderate. I suggest directing efforts at replacing them with better candidates rather than wasting time exploring whether we should replace one of the relatively few solid conservatives we now have in the Senate.

Cruz was elected to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison, a moderate Republican, instead of the GOPe pick. The Tea Party insured this. Non-Tea Party Trump supporters need to get with the program. Even if Cruz has not learned a lesson from Trump’s success (and I’d argue that he has), you are not going to find an electable replacement who is more in alignment with the president’s policies. That idea is, at best, the biggest waste of time any conservative or Trump supporter could participate in.

Governor Abbott LOST in Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and El Paso.

Abbott lost some of those cities by 2 to 1.

But keep telling us how it’s all Cruz’s fault.

“Cruz has solid support.”

If that is true, why didn’t he win with the margins that your governor did?

“More than two thirds of the senate Republicans are somewhat or very moderate. I suggest directing efforts at replacing them with better candidates rather than wasting time exploring whether we should replace one of the relatively few solid conservatives we now have in the Senate.”

While that is surely true in the first instance, I just wonder how you can “come to the conclusion” that Cruz is a solid conservative? By all that I can see, he’s been a political opportunist and a “wrecker” of the President in his quest for what he wants. I don’t have an anti-Cruz agenda. Now that he’s been re-elected, I wish him well for the next six years. I just wonder what he has to do to regain the respect of the Texas voter, because based on his numbers in this election, they don’t care for him any longer.

Could they possibly find anybody less qualified?
Only if Oprah throws her hat in the ring.

Even Obama had one term as a pantomime Senator.

“If that is true [that Cruz has solid support], why didn’t he win with the margins that your governor did?”

It is possible that some of the odd shenanigans that occurred in TX, FL, and GA resulted in fraudulent votes that manifested as “undervotes” or similar scenarios where a close outcome could potentially be manipulated into a Dem win AFTER the election was over. We almost saw this happen. And there definitely was significant voter fraud.

In Texas, there was at least some element of anti-Cruz sentiment by Trump supporters who still held a grudge from 2016. Trump is very popular here in Texas, but remember that Cruz beat Trump in the Texas primary. However, when Trump became the nominee, Cruz supporters were intelligent and patriotic enough to get behind Trump by a margin of 99+%.

Those Trump supporters who still held a grudge against Cruz in 2018 and skipped voting for him while showing up to vote for the Republican governor are too stupid to live imho. And I mean this in the nicest possible way. Society, civilization, and our free republic does not need them. If we cannot keep Texas and America free without the help of these morons, then such freedom is not deserved. They should be forced to go live in Venezuela with anyone in our nation who still embraces the Democrat party.

And I’ll add one final point on this matter. A lot of people outside of Texas ask what you asked about conservatives like Cruz. You’ve got to take into account that Cruz is a lightning rod, much like President Trump is. He is hated every bit as much as Trump by Democrats and the GOPe. Liberals POURED massive money into our state in hopes of damaging Trump, Cruz, and conservatism in general.

To be fair, O’Rourke has been in the U.S. House since 2013. There have been Congressmen elected President in the past.
