US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo pledged to Ukraine "full assistance, including military assistance," after Sunday's confrontation between Ukraine and Russia, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told CNN on Tuesday.
Poroshenko told CNN's Christiane Amanpour that during a recent phone call, Pompeo pledged "full coordination" on protecting Ukrainian sovereignty following the clash with Russia.
He also said the Ukrainian government was considering limiting Russians' ability to enter Ukraine during the period of martial law.

Some reason he didn’t call the French?
You should post that as a Breaking News article then. Along with a link to the article.
Peroshenko to the Ukrainian army. “Pompeo said he would help us! Now go start a war with Russia!
This is the right thing to do. This or give the Ukrainians some nuclear weapons to defend themselves.
I hope that is satire.
I don’t think so. There are some hear that think that way.
No, it’s not satire. It’s just another episode of Pompeo/Bolton war-seeking.
No, it’s not satire.
The US convinced the Ukrainians to give up their nuclear deterrent against the promise of US assistance if they were invaded by Russia.
They upheld their part of the bargain.
If we won’t uphold our part of the bargain then we need to give them back their nuclear deterrent or else allow the Russians to invade the rest of Ukraine...and then something else...and then something else again until we’re forced to confront them in a broader war.
Better to let the Ukrainians stare down Ivan than for us to stare down Ivan.
This is the right thing to do.
Why?
Never mind the Gulf of Tonkin stench around this provocation, ask yourself why on earth is a Ukrainian tug going under a Russian bridge with a gunboat escort?
How would you expect our coast guard to react if a Cuban tug with two gunboats decided to sail under the Brooklyn Bridge and didn't heed instructions?
This smells like a setup to derail presidential talks, as well as provide an unpopular puppet in Ukraine with martial law leading up to the next election.
The Russian bridge is on illegally occupied Ukrainian territory and it crosses a formally recognized international waterway. The Ukrainians have a right to pass that strait and so does anyone else who wants to pass there. The Russian bridge did not change that status as an international waterway...just the same as China’s artificial islands do not change the facts of the South China Sea.
Big difference from how you frame this issue.
When did the Senate confirm a treaty of military assistance to Ukraine?
(hint: never)
Peroshenko is as corrupt as clintons and obamas. If any of them said the sun would rise I the east on Wednesday I would wake up early to see for myself before believing them.
So we just sit back and let the Russians anschluss their Soviet empire back into existence?
Who decides that in your opinion, the people of Crimea, or the foreign backers of the Kiev Putsch?
I'd rather sit back than go halfway around the world looking for a fight.
Why are you so scared of Russia's Italian sized economy and shrinking population?
The EU has a larger population and economy than we do, and Russia is squeezed between them, the Chinese, the Muslims and Santa.
Why is this our fight when we have 20 trillion in debt?
My opinion is not in question here.
Your mudak friends in Russia invaded land that didn’t belong to them. PERIOD.
They acted like cowards sneaking into the country and then proudly admitting to their tactics afterwards like a bunch of thugs celebrating how they mugged someone.
I hope the Ukrainians blow that bridge to hell before the Red Army uses it to stage an invasion of the rest of the country.
Given the amount of nuclear weapons stationed in Ukraine when it was part of the Soviet Union, it is plausible there may be a few left over that were “forgotten” about...
Ukrainians are not ignorant of the nature of Russia. I wouldn’t blame them for keeping a few dozen just in case.
