Newly-elected ag chief promises audit of concealed weapons permit program (Florida)

TALLAHASSEE — Florida’s newly elected agriculture commissioner is vowing to conduct a “deep dive” into the state’s concealed weapons permit program once she is sworn into office.

Nikki Fried, who appeared on South Florida news programs on Sunday, said she has already begun talking about possible changes to the program with employees in the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Her push to revamp the program comes amid a likely legislative battle over whether the program should be moved to a different state agency.

Earlier this year it was revealed that there were lapses in the program that is currently under the control of outgoing Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam. Fried, who is now the only statewide elected Democrat, will take office Jan. 8.

Fried, who says she has had a concealed weapons permit for five years, contends that gun rights groups such as the National Rifle Association have too much influence over the operation of the program.

This past week it was reported that NRA lobbyist Marion Hammer has suggested placing Republican Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis in charge of concealed weapons permits. Hammer told the Tampa Bay Times that Patronis would “continue to run it properly.” Democrats in the state Senate, meanwhile, have filed a bill to transfer the program to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Florida transferred control of the program in 2002 from the Department of State to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services at the urging of Hammer so that it was under an elected official.........(more at the link)

"Reduce the authority of Ag department to houseplant watering."

AG is very big business in Florida. I agree that gun permits don't belong in that department, but the DoA has a lot of work and responsibility for genuine farming needs.

Demonrats and Leftists (but I repeat myself) want two things: 1) publish the name and address of every person who has a concealed carry permit, and 2) stop the issuance of concealed carry permits. Leftists do NOT want people to carry in defense of themselves and their families. They want rule by criminal, because they are criminals (lawless).

A disarmed public is a controllable public, add on the legalization of pot and you have a docile one, the youth of a nation is its future, by killing them off with hard drugs is just another tool in their box

“This is not a political issue, this is making sure safety come first.”

This is a great argument for “common sense” *SOCIALISM CONTROL*. It makes sure that safety comes first.

It should not be a political issue, in that Republicans and non-socialist Democrats should agree that socialism is a threat to the peace, security and prosperity of our nation.

They issue permits for many things. Is the DMV more appropriate?

Well if this clown try’s to take guns, they will be buried in the back forty in PVC pipes.

Nah. Time to disarm the fraudulently "elected" DemoKKKratzis and their gunthug enforcers.

“Stupid really”

Agreed.

Also, in case you haven’t heard, our illustrious supervisor of elections in broward county has decided to NOT resign. New gov. and AG need to investigate and any wrong doing needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Have you ever seen anything that the Democrats did that was legitimate? But that is what the Jews said to the Jews that tried to raise the alarm about Hitler in Germany. “There is no reason to fear Hitler. It is just politics, he does not really mean what he says. History shows different.

The Dept. of Agriculture sure isn't cross referenced with any other state department. Any check is able to instantly determine whether or not you have a valid drivers license.
Point being - I had moved (3 miles) and never received the CWL renewal packet via mail. It was sent to the old address, hence never received.

October 2017 I purchased a Glock 30 and handed over my licenses - drivers & CWL. My CWL had expired 5 days prior....this was on a Saturday.
Needless to say I had to come back after the standard 3 day waiting period to pick said handgun up.
In the meantime I made an appointment Monday morning for 11 am to have the CWL renewed. I walked in 10 minutes early and was out the door by 11 am with the new CWL good for another 7 years.

To the new Agriculture Commissioner - we'll be watching you if the new governor isn't. Tread lightly or not at all.

If she’s decided to “resist” then I would imagine she thinks she already has it all hid.

This is what I’ve been hoping for. Dan Bongino has talked about the governor and senate being head fakes, whereas the stealing of this office was the real goal so they can control concealed carry. The answer is to move the oversight to a different department and lead this joker to fondle the citrus or whatever

Ag commissioner is a powerful position here in FL regulates all sorts of stuff from Pest control companies to making sure gas pumps are accurate in addition to the actual Ag stuff. Concealed carry is a small slice. Hopefully if she gets too grabby the legislature will just pass open or “constitutional” carry and be done with it
