I never understood how they were illegal. They grow in piles of cow poop. Seen them by the thousands. Just out there in the field...

LOL ..... we never had any cows here on our property, but there are many deer. Do these 'shrooms also grow in deer pellet/crap?
We always have a few piles of deer poop in our side yard (they have a trail over there).
Thirty to forty year ago in the summer here we almost tried some of the mushrooms growing out of that poop. But, we backed off and bought some from a friend at Carnegie Mellon University (Carnegie Tech back when I was young).
