What about 1/3 of the colonialists who remained loyalists? How come history seems to be silent on what their objections were? Could it be perhaps predictions of exactly what has come to pass?
Look, I'm going to be perfectly honest here: I can go either way. If the US wants to engage in self immolation, I'm already positioned to be GOPe lording it over the large underclass. Like a minor Trump, I'm trying to warn people of what has happened and where it's going if they don't begin to fight back. But I'm not going to sacrifice myself if citizens won't attempt to save themselves. I can live perfectly well as an elite.
Roman Empire was a blink of an eye comprised of too few Patricians and citizens who were bought-off for cheap labor. Once the welfare State dried up, it was easy pickings because the citizens were too few and the cheap labor express could care less. Holy Roman Empire does not equal the Roman Empire btw. City-States and Balkanized realms does not make an empire.
Also, due process and Natural Rights in favor of perverted prerogative adjudication mires any form of earthly monarchy. Screw that, administrative law is bad enough, the Monarch’s court is a lot worse.

So, if the end result is the same, which one by its very nature tends to favor the civil rights and economic interests of the productive class? Because if the new boss is the same as the old boss, might one be more favorable yet?
That's the essential crux of the matter. Hereditary, culturally aligned property owners will align with the natives. Commercial, borderless corporatism will maximize whatever population power advantage they can gain.

There isn’t a nation on this entire earth which doesn’t have a leader(ship) from their past who is either ignored and/or vilified. Some may have had tributes during their day, while others were deposed with expediency, but in all cases, current memory is certainly not one of somber remembrance.
