Many U.S.-bound caravan migrants disperse as asylum process stalls

TIJUANA, Mexico (Reuters) - Thousands of Central American migrants spent weeks traveling north through Mexico in caravans, walking and hitching rides when possible, only for many to give up hope and turn back when they met resistance at the U.S. border.

FILE PHOTO: A migrant, part of a caravan of thousands from Central America trying to reach the United States, crosses a flooded area next to the border wall as he tries to cross from Mexico to the U.S., in Tijuana, Mexico, December 7, 2018. REUTERS/Mohammed Salem Others hopped the border fence, often directly into the hands of immigration authorities on the U.S. side, while still others dug in at temporary lodgings in Tijuana for the long process of seeking asylum from a reluctant U.S. government.

As rain poured down on a former music venue in Tijuana that holds a diminished crowd of 2,500 migrants, Jessica, 18, grabbed her feverish 1-year-old daughter and took her inside to a friend while she figured out what to do with her broken tent.

Jessica had traveled from El Salvador, and said she and her husband were waiting in the Barretal camp for the right moment to try to cross the border illegally.

“Getting asylum is really difficult,” she said. “They ask you for a lot of evidence and it’s impossible. It’s not like they say it is.”

Tijuana will probably do (is probably doing) what many other Cities and States in Mexico have done when faced with hordes of migrants - load them on buses toward another point on the US border, to let them cross.

A few hundred of them sowed up in El Paso a few days ago, in suspiciously busload-sized groups.

Yes, that would be my read of this too.

We need to be very vigilant along the border these days.

They may be dispersing across the border, but they are still coming in.

The Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA) continues apace.

Oh, you say that the ticket number machine is empty...well, I hate to tell you that new tickets have been on backorder for over 2 years and we have no idea if or when we will get new tickets. Maybe, you should go back home to your shithole country and make it a better place because you are not welcome here anymore........

These people want to come here for a better life for themselves and their children...

Here's what I don't understand... Rather than coming here why don't they import our system and bring ‘the United States’ to their countries?

Lots of these places bring communism and socialism to their shores - even though those ideas bring poverty and misery. Why don't they try our way? For their kids ( children I referred to as ‘brats’ a few weeks ago - and for that I apologize)...

Don’t apologize. They’re worse tan brats. They, in most cases are the illegitimate spawn of a lot of free loading, American hating arrogant beggars.

I’m not thinking we’re winning. They are dispersing and finding alternative less guarded routes in. There are now daily reports of caravan migrants entering the U.S.

The children in the caravan were innocent... they had no say in what they idiot parents choose to do. Thanks for forgiving me... that was nice. But I shouldn’t have made comments about the little ones.

“Rather than coming here why don’t they import our system and bring ‘the United States’ to their countries”

Because it’s not our system - it’s our people.

Liberia has the US Constitution. Want to live there?

We could become Liberia if we allow OUR liberal elite corrupt ‘deep state’ thugs to break laws while lining their own pockets.

Like Liberia with their entrenched ‘ruling class bureaucracies propping up the powerful - benefiting in the process.

The key to staying free is our founding father’s ideas and a population that constantly rights the wrongs corrupt ‘elites’ set in place to keep themselves in power. Liberia might be hopeless but South American hellholes would be much better off than if they chose communism.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption_in_Liberia

from link:

Corruption is endemic at every level of the Liberian government. Corruption is not specifically a punishable crime under Liberian law....In 2014, the US ambassador to Liberia stated that corruption there was harming people through “unnecessary costs to products and services that are already difficult for many Liberians to afford”
