The Transportation Security Administration is in the process of swapping out pointy ear dogs for floppy ear ones in an effort to put more of the public at ease when interacting with its canines.
"We’ve made a conscious effort in TSA ... to use floppy ear dogs," TSA Administrator David Pekoske said during a recent tour of operations at Washington Dulles International Airport northern Virginia.
"We find the passenger acceptance of floppy ear dogs is just better. It presents just a little bit less of a concern," Pekoske said. "Doesn’t scare children

Rottweilers have floppy ears and are great working dogs.
So whats is costing to replace dog with prick-ears with the drop-eared variety?
I thought Floppy ears was reserved for rabbits...
Some dogs have natural prick-ears, the Yorkie for example, only gets a tail-dock.
What about dogs with ears at half-mast, like some Collies?
Are those only 50% as scary as a prick-ear Doberman ?

If the TSA stated floppy eared dogs like the Labrador retriever are better in detecting smells and pointed eared dogs like German shepherd are better in detecting changes in behavior (fear, anxiety, etc.) they would have not been ridiculed as much.

Airport security shold be the responsibility of the airlines.
The pointy ear, mean looking dogs have been used for years and are under firm control by handlers. Why change this now? Maybe someone connected is profiting from this change.
