Government shutdown ruins couple's road trip

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A West Michigan native who recently moved to Colorado said she and her husband got a firsthand look at the effects of the government shutdown.

Leeann Sadler, who is originally from Grand Rapids, planned to visit several national parks with her husband. The government shutdown is taking a toll on those plans.

Sadler told 24 Hour News over FaceTime that she and her husband planned their trip six months ago.

"We didn't know that the governrment shutdown would affect the national parks like this because there is that notion that a federal shutdown doesn't really affect us in any way," Sadler said.

Sadler and her husband were in Arizona on Sunday. It was day two of their 10-day excursion.

"It's just really disappointing to see kids get really excited for national parks and to go on hikes and be outside and have them look at locked gates. That was really disappointing to see families today."

Sadler and her husband already pre-paid for their upcoming campsites.

However, she said that some of the employees in charge of campsite reservations are off the job until further notice.

They're just hoping things are figured out before Jan. 1.

What's wrong with these people?!!!!

Since when has a closed gate stopped anyone from climbing over it?

I guess they forgot to pack a ladder.

...someone holding their hands...

Mark Twain once said the outdoors is great as long as long as you do not get too much of it on you.

Tough being disappointed while in London.

Friends were there several months ago and Big Ben was covered in scaffolding.

Life goes on——as does maintenance.

So THIS is the MSM story to expose how terrible the government shutdown is? Really? Someone could not go camping during Christmas?

They will have to do better and this is just an intro. At some point they will report some deaths and say Trump killed them. :-)

President Pickles would have ordered something absurd like that.

I have no doubt in my mind.

"Friends were there several months ago and Big Ben was covered in scaffolding."

I download a lot of TV programs from British torrent sites. In 2017 they had a program about how Big Ben was going to be silenced for up to 5 years, and Queen Elizabeth's Tower was going to be covered in scaffolding for restoration work. The program showed them doing various things to get ready for it. It was very interesting. It must seem strange not to hear Big Ben on a regular basis. It is only supposed to be ringing during this period on special occasions only.

Bolt cutters or 4WD and you’re in. Apparently trespassing on US property isn’t any issue these days so have at it.

Then Demoncrats will say that we need to build walls around our Parks!

I knew a real weird dude back in a former job that was obsessed with Space Camp in the very late 90s or early 00s.

Anyway, he was notoriously cheap and kind of lacking in common sense. There was hygiene and some other stuff others complained about too after I moved on.

One Christmas break he decided to visit Space Camp. He didn’t do the slightest bit of checking.

This trip consisted of whatever the cheapest food he could get, no hotel, doubt any changes of clothes and a car that barely ran. That is another story.

A few hundred miles later he gets there and it’s closed.

He got a guard to show him a little of facility and he drove home.

Probably a better chance of getting $5B for that than the border.

Merry Christmas. The wall is down around my house for Santa access.

Exactly! There’s no “services” open to them. What the heck kind of services are available at national sites that will make or break your vacation?

Everything is “OPEN” depending on your daffynition of “OPEN”.

Merry Christmas.

P.S. Besides, I’m old enough to have one of them lifetime passes and to me that means anytime I can 4WD in, I’m good. :-)

Too dumb to read the closure reports on their iphones. Awww, look at their brand new matchy-matchy Indiana Jones hats.
