U.S. Holiday Retail Sales Are Strongest in Years, Early Data Show
Wall Street Journal ^

Shoppers delivered the strongest holiday sales increase for U.S. retailers in six years, according to early data.

Total U.S. retail sales, excluding automobiles, rose 5.1% between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24 from a year earlier, according to Mastercard SpendingPulse, which tracks both online and in-store spending with all forms of payment.

The figures suggest a stock-market swoon and partial government shutdown haven’t curbed consumer confidence and spending.

“Wall Street is running around like a chicken with its head cut off, while Mr. and Mrs. Main Street are happy with their jobs, enjoying their best wage increases in a decade,” said Craig Johnson, president of Customer Growth Partners, a retail research and consulting firm. A recent drop in gas prices has helped last-minute spending, he said.

This is excellent news!

We went last minute shopping at Tysons Corner on Sunday and the whole mall was unusually empty, even for a non holiday.

I guess conservatives get their shopping done early so we can spend more time with our families...

How come this is not front page news or a siren on Drudge? Oh, I forgot, we can’t have good economic news while Trump is President.

The leftist and the globalist big players don't like Americans with extra spending money. Millions of them might get the idea the economy under Trump is doing pretty well, like he said it would.

If that happened, they just might vote for Trump in 2020.

This helps to offset the screaming headlines on Drudge about the market bottoming out.

What the stock market watchers don't think or talk about, mom-and-pop operations, and small businesses, are not driven by stock purchases or stock prices. Most people are not employed by corporations which are dependent on stockholders. That part of the economy is not affected by what the market does.

I don’t even recall any stories of the usual Black Friday brawls
I've heard of a few minor skirmishes over the latest Air Jordans, and some craziness at a few WalMarts, but yeah, people generally behaved themselves this year.

Can’t be, even Drudge is saying that the economy is completely coming apart. OK, he’s not actually saying it but it’s the only story he’ll link these days. Makes me wonder who got to him, probably a DemonRat with juicy NSA info.

Yep, I wonder who got to Drudge? In the last couple months, I just scan his links and click on nearly nothing. I’m also going there a lot less often, it’s all just doom-and-gloom liberal garbage. If I want to see that crap I’ll just head on over to CNN, that’s your one-stop shopping for media garbage.

Regarding holiday spending, the pre-Christmas media coverage on holiday spending is always schizophrenic. They act like it’s their job to drum up sales, “Sales are down, you lazy greedy idiots, why aren’t you buying gifts like you should? Sure, just hold onto your money and spend some on yourselves instead, jerks.” Then we see stories from the very same outlets talking about how we’re a bunch of egomaniac jerks for spending so much on Christmas while people in the world are starving. Talk about not being able to get your story straight.

The stock market went nowhere but up and up and up under Buttcrack Hussein. Now it’s doing nothing but tanking. Bet your ass it’s rigged.
