Several dozen House Republicans might cross the aisle this week to vote for Democratic bills to reopen shuttered parts of the federal government, spurring the White House into a dramatic effort to stem potential GOP defections.
White House officials and Republican congressional leaders worry that GOP support for the shutdown is eroding, weakening President Donald Trump’s hand as he seeks billions of dollars for a border wall that Democrats have vowed to oppose, according to GOP lawmakers and aides.

I suspect McCarthy is going to prove to be a very weak House Minority Leader. We are after all talking about an elected California Republican. His long history of Chamber of Commerce stoogery is well documented.

FAKE NEWS. 15 or so elected Republicans are from border areas and a few other districts are simply Left-wing on this, and would prefer to stand in front of a firing squad before they’ll support a wall. They’ve always been that way on immigration, and they always will be. They are generally with us on other tough votes, like guns, abortion, taxes, etc., so they’re still with us, generally, but not on this issue.
So, if they get another 5 to 10 in the House, no big deal. They have HUGE DISTANCE to cover before they reach 55 Republican votes in the House, plus 20 Republican votes in the Senate (needed to override Trump), as EVERY REPUBLICAN, other than those 15 in the House and another 4 or so in the Senate, knows THEIR CAREER IS FINISHED if they go against Trump on this issue. It’s not that they necessarily love Trump, it’s that they do love being in Congress.
The problem are limp wristed RINO Republicans. Too bad they were not defeated in November.
If we don’t get the wall this round, this will be the last one. the gov of ny and ca are giving free healthcare to ALLL illegals and immigrants.. they will come in droves with that enticement! We will have no United States.. it will be a commie country led by the socialists who are hell bent on control!
Plus anyone worth their salt, will leave CA and NY... don’t know what drs in those states will do with free care! taxes will be higher and our country will be something we have never wanted.
I called my Rep’s local and DC offices today, asked them if the congressman had heard what Senator Graham had to say about the GOP’s survival. I left them with this, “believe it”.
