Every barrier, wall, fence, vault or enclosure is vulnerable given the right tool and enough time.
That’s where human eyes, sensors and electronic surveillance comes into play.

No wall is any good without surveillance. Cutting steel like that takes time, and with proper detection methods, can be fixed quickly.
Also, how many drug mules have the tools necessary to cut through steel while walking the long journey.
Look for a solution which prevents 98% of illegals simply walking across either no fence or a weak fence, which is also a cost effective solution.
Without a wall, they just illegally walk across. In huge numbers. Hundreds of thousands if not millions per year. The wall will slow it to a trickle of very determined persons. And they’ll be more easily detected and caught.

Double fences with monitoring systems, alert Border Patrol to the intrusion, BEFORE the second barrier is breached.

How ‘bout this: Towers every two miles along the border with a Marine sniper in each tower with orders to shoot to wound. The wounded are then taken to a hospital, and tattooed with a big “I” (i.e., Illegal) in the middle of their forehead...large enough to be seen from a mile away with a sniper scope. The Rules of Engagement are different for those who try to sneak in with a big “I” tattooed on the forehead. I think it would cost less than $5b and I’m pretty sure it would give pause to those who want to enter the US illegally.
The walls are vulnerable to nuclear attack, lazar beams and photon torpedoes. Definitely should give up and let them in!

It’s a MAJOR deterrent, quite sure stuff like this will be tried and some successful. Plus it’s much better to chase down a couple of them in one spot than numerous ones at a time out in the open.
