Barr says he would 'not carry out' president's order to fire Mueller if lacking good cause

William Barr, President Trump's pick to serve as his next attorney general, said he would not fire special counsel Robert Mueller if President Trump ordered him to do so without good cause.

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Conn.), who asked Barr about how he would respond, tied his question to Watergate scandal when the prosecutor investing Watergate resigned instead of following then-President Richard Nixon's order for him to fire the special counsel investigating the matter.

"Most famously when directed by president Nixon to fire the special counsel, the prosecutor investigating watergate, Richard Nixon resigned, as we all know. If those directions were to fire Mueller, would you follow Richard Nixon's example and resign instead?" Coons asked Barr.

"Assuming no good cause," the lawmaker added.

"I would not carry out that instruction," Barr told Coons.

The POS. The President does not need “good cause”. Mueller and the AG are at will positions.

Barr should never have been nominated. The President should withdraw his nomination unilaterally.

Mueller should be fired and another special prosecutor appointed to look into the racketeering of the DOJ, FBI and the CIA.

Mueller’s true job is to protect Hillary, Comey, Brennan,, Clapper and the rest of the RICO racketeers.

That’s why Mueller has to go.

Yes, Trump is an idiot.

There are no four-moves ahead chess going on here.

He has no clue what he is doing.

This is the biggest disaster in the White House since, well I don’t know when.

Loonies on the left are having a field day with all of this.

None of this will end well.

Trump has recently hit few drives into the rough, the H-1B proclamation and now this. Yes, I feel a little betrayed but I am still on board. I got no where else to go.

He’s dirty with Uranium 1 deal, of which this Russia investigation is a coverup. We have one criminal complaint against him for this investigation. He’s dirty in too many ways to count for misconduct throughout his career. Don’t wait for Trump to tell you to fire him. Do it yourself over his objections the moment you are sworn in.

Find Jay sekulow discussing the Barr hearings with Hannity. As a good lawyer, as a good conservative, as Trumps lawyer, he is saying Barr is great, and just dealing with stupid senators at a confirmation hearing.

The pearl clutchers on FR need to take their meds.

Ah, I see. The alphabet agencies (FBI...) are above POTUS. He being the chief executive, excepting their un-constitutional existence.

The attorney general and every other alphabet agent are part of the EXECUTIVE branch of DC government
AND THEY WORK FOR HIM.

The only way to prevent POTUS from executing operations is to remove him via impeachment. Unless We-The-People remove everyone in DC.

Agree, but I think the reason is that Congressional Republicans are spineless and would go along with Democrats to impeach him. He cannot rely on Congressional Republicans to have his back. Just look at the number who are already wishy washy regarding the shutdown. He has accomplished most of what he has accomplished not only without their help but in spite of their hinderence.

"Assuming no good cause," the lawmaker added.

How about there was no "crime" which is required in order to exercise the special counsel statute?

You have explained here exactly why I when the RNC and other Republican organization calls me or sends me snail-mail or e-mail solicitations for contributions I tell them that I contribute ONLY to individual Republican politicians who have a proven track record of supporting the President and opposing ALL Democrat initiatives. And the more insistent they are, the more negative I get.

If Jay thinks Barr is okay, then I am good with it. Not that the President needs my approval or anything. LOL
