William Barr’s Connection to Ruby Ridge, Defending FBI Snipers
The American Conservative ^ | January 16, 2019 | James Bovard

The Senate Judiciary Committee hearings for Attorney General nominee William Barr have focused heavily on Barr’s views on Special Counsel Robert Mueller. But nobody is asking about Barr’s legal crusade for blanket immunity for federal agents who killed American citizens.

Barr received a routine questionnaire from the Judiciary Committee asking him to disclose his past work including pro bono activities “serving the disadvantaged.” The “disadvantaged” that Barr spent the most time helping was an FBI agent who slayed an Idaho mother holding her baby in 1992. Barr spent two weeks organizing former Attorneys General and others to support “an FBI sniper in defending against criminal charges in connection with the Ruby Ridge incident.” Barr also “assisted in framing legal arguments advanced… in the district court and the subsequent appeal to the Ninth Circuit,” he told the committee.

That charitable work (for an FBI agent who already had a federally-paid law firm defending him) helped tamp down one of the biggest scandals during Barr’s time as Attorney General from 1991 to early 1993. Barr was responsible for both the U.S. Marshals Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, two federal agencies whose misconduct at Ruby Ridge “helped to weaken the bond of trust that must exist between ordinary Americans and our law enforcement agencies,” according to a 1995 Senate Judiciary Committee report.

The Justice Department paid $3 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit from the Weaver family. But when Boundary County, Idaho filed criminal charges against Horiuchi, Barr sprang to action seeking immunity for FBI snipers. He spearheaded efforts to sway the court to dismiss all charges because holding a sniper liable would “severely undermine, if not cripple, the ability of future attorneys general to rely on such specialized units in moments of crisis such as hostage taking and terrorist acts.”

This was during the GHWB administration. Barr should be asked for his current views.

Hi.

Let’s see...we have Wounded Knee II. We have Ruby Ridge. And last but not least we have Waco (One).

Wasn’t Lon Horuchi at them all?

These were the actual FBI rules in effect on deadly force at the time of Ruby ridge.

“Agents are not to use deadly force against any person except as necessary in self-defense or the defense of another, when they have reason to believe that they or another are in danger of death or grievous bodily harm. Whenever feasible, verbal warnings should be given before deadly force is applied.”

These are the “special ROE” The FBI under Barr put out at Ruby Ridge.

“If any adult in the area around the cabin is observed with a weapon after the surrender announcement had been made, deadly force could and should be used to neutralize the individual.”
“If any adult male is observed with a weapon prior to the announcement deadly force can and should be employed if the shot could be taken without endangering any children.”

The FBI makes up whatever “rule” it needs. If any local police department adopted this same rule at a SWAT standoff, The DOJ/FBI would immediately launch a pattern and practices lawsuit and go for a consent decree with them running that department.

Ditto if a local department decided it would never record interactions or interviews and instead decided they would have the cop involved just wrote a synopsis of the interview.

The FBI is corrupt

There were better choices out there for AG. I’m afraid Barr is going to be another sessions, only without the recusal.

If he is close personal friends with Mueller, that means he is no good. Birds of a feather...

I had not paid much attention to Barr and his various misdeeds but this one is the one which got to me.

Trump needs to withdraw his nomination immediately. If not then it is a serious snub of his base.

Yet another warning sign. This guy will be even worse than Sessions.

What channels is Donald learning about political issues through? This was a matter that caused a political flurry years back. Surely there are Senators serving now who know? If Donald isn’t aware, he soon will be.

Donald Trump doesn’t have a lot of history in the GOP camp, and that’s a problem because he thinks he can suss everything out on his own.

I can't for the life of me understand why the trigger man is still alive and breathing. Same goes for the slime who shot the boy in the back. And, those scum who stormed the Branch Davidian compound. Maybe it's my age, but I couldn't sleep if dirt bags like these murdered my family members.

Barr supports the FBI gestapo cowards murdering women, children and babies. Trump needs to withdraw this nomination. Barr is a deep state traitor and will undermine Trump.

The guy who shot Sammy in the back (and arm) was never identified, but due to the number of each man’s shots fired was probably the federal marshal who got killed. The bullets were never recovered. We were told.

Perhaps we are not seeing Trump correctly? Selecting Barr raises serious questions as to what side Trump is really on. He may have been forced into selecting Barr. They might finally have HIM under control so to speak.

The more I learn about Barr, the less I like.

Why, oh why, is Trump nominating these types?

Who is whispering in Trump’s ear and why is Trump listening to him?

I have to conclude that there are still back-stabbers in Trump’s inner circle.

When does Charlie Brown wise up about Lucy and that football? Barr has flimflammed several conservatives. The Deep State Media will not reveal Barr’s involvement with the deep state.

That is all one needs to know. Two birds of the same feather. Expect more of the same.
