Newly elected Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, Republican Dennis Bonnen, campaigned as a pro-Second Amendment candidate. However, actions speak far louder than words and we now see he lied. For the first time in decades, a Speaker has appointed anti-gun Democrats to chair the two most important House Committees for Texas gun owners. Speaker Bonnen appointed D-rated, anti-gun Democrat Poncho Nevarez as Chair of the Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee and F-rated, anti-gun Democrat Nicole Collier to Chair the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. These are the two committees that hear all gun and self-defense related bills. Committee chairmen have the sole authority to decide whether a bill in their committee will get a hearing or a vote. The net result will be every anti-gun bill filed in the House will get a committee hearing. Pro-gun bills either will not get a hearing or won't get a committee vote in time to reach the House floor for debate and voting. Dont be fooled. A bill can be killed by not giving it a committee vote, or by voting it out of committee too late in the session for it to reach the floor. This presumes it isnt killed in the House Calendars Committee

Clearly the remnant of LBJ is still alive in TX
Im assuming the Repubs have control of the House in Texas? Can they recall him and vote in someone who will be supportive of the people that elected him/her?
Why can’t the rest of the Republicans oust him?
I must be missing something here. How can a Democrat chair any committee in a chamber that is controlled by Republicans? This sounds wrong.
Hate to say it, but Texas republicans are not very dependable as conservatives. They love to crow about how conservative they are, but you get way too many Bush loving KoolAid drinkers like Cornyn, this clown Bonnen, etc.
They are very neocon, very pro-deep state, very pro-status quo, very globalist. Most Texan PEOPLE are not. But their elected republicans are. That’s just a fact.
Sounds like Dennis Bonnen has been bribed or blackmailed by the Texas DNC.
if accurate report, this STINKS!
who the Hell do these sleazy politicians think they are, to lie lie lie lie to the American people who elect them?
this renders our political representation system.. and our liberties...moot
“Hint, most R’s in Texas are pretty middle of the road. “
True. Just takes a few minutes to hear how many of them revere both Bush Presidents.
Ann Richards must be so proud...
Just like Illinois.
My first thoughts exactly.
It doesn’t matter. Even if they’re able to move an anti-gun bill out of their committees and out of Calendars Committee, the would never survive a floor vote in the House — much less survive the Senate and Governor’s veto.
Not all Democrats make lousy committee chairs. Richard Raymond (D-Laredo) is an outstanding Chair of the House Committee on Human Services, and has been for years. OTOH, we’ve had some terrible Republican chairs in the recent past.
Is there a legal avenue for a recall?
Dan Patrick just removed Seliger as Ag committee chair, why can’t he remove these two?
Bush League Republicans MUST become extinct before the Republic does.
Exactly. He let in countless millions of Mexicans. He let in 850,000 moslems after 9/11. He is a typical globalist neocon. Had no problem with the TPP, NAFTA, Trans Texas tollway run by Spain. tried to block the execution of a Mexican murderer.
But he sure knows the “aw shucks” routine.
You say he is about “compromise”. I say he is about incremental surrender. Compromise implies BOTH sides gain something, and give UP something they hold dear.
I never saw him once stick it hard to the Democrats.
His idea of “compromise” is the dems ask for single payer national health care. He gives them prescription medical coverage, part of what they want. They gain some of what they want, and we only give up what we have.
I see no signs of intelligence in him.
He’s a back door man, er, fruit.
