Wow, that’s risky. If one of our diplomats gets hurt, it will be on Trump.

><

You have it backwards.

US media is showing pro Maduro rallies, and presenting them as pro Guaido. They are also showing protests from 2014 and 2016 and presenting them as happening today.

Give me links.

This would seem to put American leftists in an interesting spot. Their instinct will be to support Maduro. But this will align them with Russia, which came out today in support of Maduro over Guaido.

Because this is our hemisphere and we've been down this path before in this region. The interim leader of Venezuela will in all likelihood be assassinated in the next few days.

“...Holy shit! This could get NASTY....”

Yep, the past has not been real tolerant of Communist dictatorships in the Americas. Hmmm, would the Monroe Doctrine come into play here? Just sayin’....

“Because this is our hemisphere and we’ve been down this path before in this region. The interim leader of Venezuela will in all likelihood be assassinated in the next few days. “

Whatever oil the commies manage to pump out of the ground will be available to the world market.

That is the ONLY real commercial interest we have there.

Our national security interests are minimal within the context of a MUCH greater threat to Brazil and Columbia. And they can handle their own interests vs Maduro.

Only IF, and it’s a big IF, Maduro attacks the US mission there would we have any reason to consider any military action, and that action should prudently be limited to evacuation and retaliation.

Oh, they do have exceedingly hot women there. But that’s not a good reason to send the USMC. They have access elsewhere.

Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush have thanked President Trump for his decision on Venezuela.

Oh, that’s a good sign. Well, I’m all in on yet another regime change then. /s

If one of our diplomats gets hurt that will guarantee US military intervention on the side of the anti-Maduro forces.

It would eliminate with certainty whatever remaining chance he has to hold onto power.

“Pompeo warned “the Venezuelan military and security forces” not to attempt to remove the diplomats by force or retaliate over their refusal. “We call on all parties to refrain from measures that are inconsistent with the privileges and immunities enjoyed by members of the diplomatic community,” he said. “The United States will take appropriate actions to hold accountable anyone who endangers the safety and security of our mission and its personnel.””

translation of Pompeo’s diplomatic statement into the vernacular:

“We double-dog dare you to touch a single hair on a single one of our diplomats ... we’re just itching for a excuse to send in troops to “rescue” any “hostages” ...”

More likely is air strikes to eliminate any organized opposition to the anti-Maduro forces. Doesn’t take many local units to establish control if Maduro’s get systematically destroyed.

I most certainly do not want to see one drop of American blood, nor one dollar from the US Treasury expended to oust this commie bastard.

We have been forced to expend much more than that because of his presence.

*** Give me links *** Here is a screen shot a crowdstrike person is pushing. The pic is not from today.

Found it from as early as 2012 within the past hour, but that site has gone "cannot be reached. You do not have permission to access this site"

Here it is in 2016:

http://panamaadvisoryinternationalgroup.com/blog/news-from-panama/the-march-on-caracas-final-proof-venezuelans-have-turned-on-maduro/

Will post more. It is a real pain on this device.

I was in Caracas in the early 90s. There is a little airport in the valley in the city. We were to take off from there in the morning. I could see the airport from my hotel room terrace. Before our flight troops began to surround the airport and stack up sand bags. Our trip was delayed. By that afternoon the troops were gone, the airport opened and the sand bags were cleaned up. We were told it had been done to repel a coup attempt. Game over and back to business as usual.

“Kosovo not a country?”

The USA recognized it about 10 years ago, but not everybody does. Definitely not Serbia.
