Voters in congressional districts that President Trump won in 2016 but flipped Democratic last November support his border wall and believe Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi should have accepted his immigration deal to end the partial government shutdown.
A poll of 10 representative districts, some of which Trump won by a big margin but then voted a Democrat into office in 2018, also found that a plurality approve of the presidents job performance, 49 percent to 48 percent.
The Public Opinion Strategies survey done for the Republican National Committee provided some hope for the president and GOP messaging on the border wall.
Whats more, the survey provided to Secrets found that voters in districts in New York, Minnesota, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Maine, Virginia and New Jersey believe that Trumps immigration compromise dismissed by Pelosi should have been accepted in the shutdown struggle.
And it found that more voters believe Trump "has been more open to compromise on this issue than congressional Democrats."
It tested several border messages, for example on costs, support from border agents, and the national security threat illegal immigration poses. After they hear this series of statements, voters in these DEM-held congressional districts move toward supporting the presidents border barrier as they shift away from Pelosi, said the survey analysis.
The highlights directly from the poll:
A plurality of voters in these districts approve of President Trumps job performance (49%-48%), including an overwhelming majority of Republican voters (87%-11%). A majority of voters (54%-43%) say they support Trumps policies. By a 61%-35% margin, voters support the presidents position on border security. By a 53%-43% margin, voters in these DEM-held congressional districts support building a border wall or barrier to improve security between the U.S. and Mexico. A majority of voters (50%-43%) believe that Democrats should have accepted Trumps offer of three years of protection for dreamers in exchange for $5.7 billion in funding a border wall. By a 41%-34% margin, voters say Trump has been more open to compromise on this issue than congressional Democrats. After voters hear more about the need for a wall or barrier to improve national security, they move toward the presidents stance and away from Speaker Pelosis position.
Ok, and that is why we wound up with trump. So why dont we have a wall yet? Heck, we even had a gop house and senate for the first two years!
Lost opportunity
GOPe doesn’t want a ‘wall’ just as badly as the Dems..................
In short, Paul Ryan and I'm sure a shockingly large number of other RINO's.
As I posted on another thread, I hope Trump uses the SOU speech to point out that the Demonrats have no problem spending GUBMINT money on illegal immigrants even though they know it will make take MONEY away from programs—like Social Security, food stamps, etc.— that are there for LEGAL citizens!
After all, MONEY talks pretty clearly, even to DIMocrats!
In hindsight, perhaps the primary reason for the GOP losing the House was the electorate wanting to get rid of Paul Ryan.
Tin ear Pelosi will not hear this because her anti-Trump obsession will overwhelm any ability she has left to think rationally.
Tin ear Pelosi will not hear..
People need to understand Trump hatred is not the reason the Rats wont give an inch on the wall. They know the wall work and those are Rat voters pouring across the border. If the Hispanic vote went Republican these people would be demanding a wall. In fact it would have gone up years ago.Wake up.
the majority in these districts do support Trump. the seats were stolen by the dems due to fraud.
Thanks Red Badger. Ooh, I just noticed something, but this isn't the place to post it. Where did I leave that topic...
“Ok, and that is why we wound up with trump. So why dont we have a wall yet? Heck, we even had a gop house and senate for the first two years!”
Something bigger is at play here. In 2009, Obama could have declared amnesty for all, and changed immigration laws to anything he wanted. He had a veto proof majority in the Senate and had the House. But nothing happened. Why?
Fast forward to 2017. Trump has the same situation,(with the exception of the veto proof majority) and congress could have pretty much done anything they wanted with immigration. But they didn’t. Why?
I submit that there is a deal in place for Democrat voters and Republican cheap labor. And Trump is putting the kabosh on it.
Trump “has been more open to compromise on this issue than congressional Democrats.
They will lose everything that was on the table if the wall isn’t built next election not looking good for them.
I think you found the source of the problem.
I think the house will flip again in 2020. I think with the support of Trump, we might see some Trump supporters running. We might have lost the house, but mostly it was AntiTrump Republicans who lost.
Half of what we lost was to fraudulent vote harvesting.
See #15...I think you’ll see ProTrump candidates get elected in 2020...
It looks like it the dems have went so far left they can’t come back they are a very high risk.
So why dont we have a wall yet? Heck, we even had a gop house and senate for the first two years!

Hard to believe with the President’s ‘personality’ that he really GAS what others thought of him BUT I figure he didn’t really want to alienate the Rs too much and with so many early ‘retirements’ -Don’t normally see the pols ‘quit’ when their own party wins an election - figured he may have MORE backing after 2016 elections..
I also think the Barr appointment is just someone PDJT thought that ‘maybe’ he could get a few D to ‘like’ and allow his ‘pick’ to remain #2 and let him do most of the heavy lifting.
OR....figured the Libs would tie Barr up for a while and then just let the ‘interim’ run wild?
Either way one would think he would have learned that you can NOT trust the LIBS with anything - especially when they so openly defy you.
At least this new(er) breed of liberal/socialist/communist isn’t trying to mask his/her feelings, they appear to be dropping all pretense of being any kind of ‘play along to get along’ mood - picking up on Bernie and the MSM.
If nothing else, Bernie doesn’t pull any punches or give one reason to believe he is anything but what he puts out there for show....
