I suspect if you pointed that out to AOC, she would answer that is not her problem..

How would all those homes get heated by WINDmills & Solar panels??? The answer is THEY WOULD NOT.....

That's correct. Most heat exchangers don't work below zero F and switch into resistive heat, overloading the grid and leading to blackouts. The only solution for that is spending $20k or more on deep wells if you have the right kind of property. But that won't help you in a blackout.

Markey is such a suck up I can’t stand the sight of him, and Warren!!!

Is there a state in this nation that has a filthier Congressional Delegation than the Gay State's?

I'll be damned if *I* can think of one.

Off the cuff for starters, If YOU want to reach college students, you need to set up a Twitter account and an Instagram account— I believe that is where college students live...and start tweeting alternative points of view...

May end up on GAB too.

And how about your family members? Any college students in that crowd? Talk to them lately? IF not, why not? If they are conservative, they can help you access college forums, etc.

Not just college students tho...There are milennials who share AOC’s view.

How about writing comments on YouTube channels that are popular with milennials too...or Facebook - a place older liberals go?

How about submitting editorials to local newspaper to reach older liberals? How about monitoring your local city Council meetings to see what Green initiatives are being implemented locally and trying to challenge and educate people watching those local meetings?

I just note that many here are posting things, but how many people are actually DOING anything else—even emailing/calling their elected “Representatives,” or emailing/mailing president to challenge or support his various initiatives?

When you say WE MUST, I have to ask what are YOU GOING TO DO...it really has to be all of us including you ;)

Freegards

imho the republican should compromise on this one.

First the republicans should strip out all the democrat mandates, regulations and carbon taxes.

But leave in all the new R&D funding for renewable energies because the President wants the US to be energy dominant. that means being dominant in all energy sources including solar wind nuclear geothermal, compressed air. The way to be dominant is to be the lowest cost producer of every energy vertical. That requires R&D which is, after all, America’s bread and butter.

Then the republicans should start adding in provisions. From this they should take a cue from arguably our greatest ally and arguably our greatest enemy respectively Israel and China.

Both countries are investing a lot of money in desalination R&D, water infrastructure and reforestation.

Add in R&D for water desalination research. Its important here to understand that Israel has become water independent because of water desalination. They have collapsed the cost of desalinated water to the point where they can use it for agriculture. (the water is first sent to their cities and then is cleaned up to brown water standards and sent to their farms.) This feat is one of biblical proportions. Droughts were regular occurrences in bible. Israel no longer has to worry about drought or food security. The USA needs to do the research to bring down water desalination costs further to make desalination cheap enough for agriculture in the USA. That would make much of the southwest suitable for agriculture because brackish water underlies much of that area and the pacific ocean and gulf of mexico are nearby.

The second part is water infrastructure. Both Israel and China have built and are building pretty massive water infrastructure projects to move water around their countries. The US has not had any major water infrastructure projects for over half a century. One such project might bring east texas storm water to west texas. Another might move Mississippi spring flood water to the colorado basin. a third might move red river spring flood water to new mexico. a fourth might include a dam for california or a water catchment for one of southern california’s storm rivers.

The third part is trees. Both Israel and China are planting millions of trees to reclaim their deserts. As part of the program they both plant trees and shape the land to hold rainwater. The reason they do this is because trees rebuild the soil, hold the water and eventually make land suitable for living and agriculture. The Israelis have small projects going up all over Israel. The chinese are doing this at scale. They are reclaiming about 800 square miles a year from the deserts—which make up about half of china.
The UN blesses the the Israeli and Chinese tree planting programs because trees reduce CO2. But never in a million years would China and Israel plant trees to curb CO2 alone. Rather, have their own reasons for planting trees.

Similarly the USA would have its own reason for planting trees. Planting trees for example throughout the southwest would go a long way toward reclaiming those areas from the desert, for habitation and agriculture

Why do this? Why do this?

Say you don’t think the feds should be spending money on alternative energy R&D and you don’t give a rats behind about the Israelis the Chinese or both. Why do this?

The reason is because the president cannot win in 2020 on just his base. Nor can he count on a third party candidate to split the democrat vote. Texas went dangerously purple in the last election. One more election like that—and the republicans are done.

Something has to give.

Consider A Green Energy Bill that ostensibly promises to reduce CO2 by planting trees (because tree planting will get all the headlines since R&D & infrastructure are boring.)...but in reality promises to increase the habitable size of the USA by 1/3. This would appeal to all the suburban soccer moms —all over the country. Not because of the increased habitable size of the USA —but because of the reduction in CO2!

A recent study by yale showed that almost 70% of the country is at least somewhat concerned about climate change. big woof. knock off at least 15% because the pollsters were liberal. Ok we’re down to 55% of the populace. republicans need to take a slice out of this 55% part of the electorate to win in 2020. they are not democrats. nothing trump does will win democrat votes. they are not republicans. Trump won’t gain or lose votes from republicans on this bill.

the people trump want to sway are independents. the squishy middle.

Is it worth playing to the squish vote to get Trump re elected? You decide.

An interesting question is—why would the democrats go with a republican draft of the Green New Deal? (the republican draft would strip out all the democrat taxes, mandates and regulations.)

Because CO2 is an existential threat according to radicals centrists and leadership in the democrat party. The world only has 12 years before run away climate change is unstoppable.

Under those circumstances—half a loaf is better than none. they calculate that they can get the rest later—but they need to do something anything—right now.

Do you really think dems give a damn about the environment? If they did they wouldn’t embrace invaders coming to the most wasteful country on earth. Instead, they’d be making their low-impact rural environments safer and more economically sustainable. All they care is about WINNING without compromise. That’s why President Trump’s very sane negotiating skills don’t work with them....they aren’t sane!

They care as much about the environment as they care about almost-born babies (other than harvesting the organs). The Dems strategy is to bankrupt the US but first use our wealth to pay climate reparations with a big cut for their sponsors. The better campaign issue for Trump is the renewable R&D.

Capitalism (Bell telephone monopoly) created the photocell and the transistor but the unique conditions that allowed that monopoly (local restrictions on stringing phone lines) are gone now. The federal government can put some dollars into basic R&D to improve electricity and fuel from solar. We already lead the world and can easily maintain that lead.

The fact is, solar panels of some sort will provide most electricity and fuel within a few decades. There may be other electricity sources we haven't figured out yet like fusion. There may be some biofuels that scale. There will be a little leftover wind, but wind is antiquated mechanical crap. There will certainly still be some fossil fuel. But thanks to R&D panels can already create fuel for heating, energy storage, and cars from ambient CO2, water and sunlight. Prototypes now, dirt cheap within a few decades.

re: solar panels. If they're a good idea (I have reservations) and they're economically feasible, let private capital have it. Back in the 1970s, government subsidies created a market for those huge solar panels on the sides of house. They didn't make water very warm, they were nightmares to repair and dispose of. The only reason they were profitable or desirable was government subsidies. Without them, a viable product would've had to be invented. Even today, solar companies go bankrupt when the subsidies run out. And governments (instead of the private sector) are in some cases using our tax dollars to build them.

Government involvement was fine to build the rails and to get to the moon. We all benefitted from inventions that came along to achieve those goals? But solar panels? Assuming they're effective....they've already been invented so if there's a profit to be made, let people who think so buy shares of stock to pay for them.

Good recipe, just replace everything with some ice and Tequila, and it’s great.

BTW, Agave Blue Tequila is the only liquor with different sugars which will not remain in the body. Agave Tequila, still contains twigs and stems, but Agave Blue is the purest form of this type of ‘medicinal’ alcohol.

The colored tequilas are colored by the caramel in the casks, so contain some sugars which will be retained, though I tend to prefer a simple Jose Cuervo Gold over a deep bucket and ice.

I agree that democrat leadership are lying snakes and they care about is winning. However, the democrat base does believe in things like free stuff everyone, white people are evil and “the world is going to die in 12 years if we don’t do something now. And we know that because the UN said so.” The party leadership has to cater to the passions of their base.

I agree that President Trump is very sane and his negotiating skills are world class.

The photocell and transistor were invented thanks to essentially unlimited R&D funding from the Bell monopoly. There were many failures and private capital would not fund that kind of basic research today.

Jimmy Carter put those solar water preheaters on the White House. They were extremely ugly due to large amounts of insulation needed and useless. They need a heat exchanger and antifreeze or they can only be run in later spring through fall.

Today's solar companies are subsidized by electric ratepayers. Those subsidies never run out. In VIrginia we all provide free power to solar homes in winter. They use credits they build up in the summer. However in the summer we pay them full retail for their power which is about 3 or 4 times the wholesale power cost. So in the winter when they use their "credits" it is really free power for them. Like I said, the subsidiy will never run out until they repeal net metering laws which is unlikely.

But solar panels?

Yes. Basic R&D with government money is now inventing new panels to use water, ambient CO2 and sunlight to produce methane and possibly other fuels. Those will allow energy storage so solar power will span cloudy days. Or the fuel can power vehicles or heat homes. This will take years and there will be failures so it is appropriate to fund it with government money along with the basic R&D into fusion, improved fossil and synthetic fuels.

We respectfully disagree. It seems that government R&D money can actually take away from the incentive to get something effective accomplished. With railroads and getting to the moon, it was a goal to be accomplished. With solar and other alternative energies, it's to replace something we already have.

What I'm not hearing enough about any more is using less energy by not heating and air conditioning when it can be avoided, by cutting down on electricity used, by living in smaller houses and using public transportation or walking, and if one is driving, to get a small car.
