Not B.C.; part of it, maybe...central BC north of Prince George. In other words, the working part of BC.
Vancouver, eh! NEVER.
Western Canada almost became part of the U.S. many years ago. Ottawa finally made good on the transcontinental railroad and they stayed with Canada. There is a lot of Western Canada that would be happier joining the U.S.
In a minute!! And make Dawson City the capital. I'll move to Mayo.
Whitehorse is too swampy to be the capital.
If Alberta becomes our 51st, I nominate Ian Tyson to be governor!
no, Disney land by its self is worth more than the tourist trap that is Dawson city
I favor nationalizing California but would never trade it for the worthless yukon
Yukon is a territory because it is worthless
I've gotten attached to one of Ian's underrated tunes: Summer Wages
The lyrics describe working in the logging business on towboats along the British Columbia coast, but I've read somewhere that he was inspired to write this after working one summer as a young guy driving tourists out to Banff from Calgary.
I suppose then the question might be why not Ontario too? I think at the time it was felt that Manitoba and Saskatchewan had more of a natural affinity to Ontario.... nothing more than that. Saskatchewan certainly had developed some oil resources by the late 80s early 90s but nothing like they have today. The other part of it was that BC certainly made sense for geographical reasons in that it provided a land bridge from the rest of continental U.S. to Alaska.
RE: 2) that they inherit $21 billion in debt
Make that $21 Trillion!
Can we trade Puerto Rico and the USVI for Alberta?
You are talking through your posterior, and it smells like POOP!
There are over 22 ridings in Alberta, and 4 of them went to the LIEberals, all of them in the two largest cities. One went to the NDP (think dimrats on steroids).
How that makes Alberta responsible for turd-owe is beyond me, since the results of federal elections are decided before the west’s votes are even tabulated.
Nevermind, just so long as you can slag on Canada all is well. Were you a writer for South Park at one stage in your life?
Too swampy as in mosquito infested or swampy as in DC Swamp?
I had an acquaintance who lived in Whitehorse. He was always telling me to come on over (I’m in Alaska)
I hate to admit, I like that show. My wife LOVES it.
Swampy, both! From skeeters and DC swampiness.
Not sure where you are in Alaska, but driving to Dawson City, then down to Whitehorse is highly recommended. Dawson City is a great town...lots to see and great local drives and good restaurants.
If you spend time in Dawson, be sure to stop in at the Snake Pit...locals’ hang out and a little scary for the tourists. Try to catch Harmonica George when he is performing. Lotsa FUN!!
One of my all-time favorite songs...Ian must have written it in the 60’s??
I also love, I Outgrew The Wagon; very cool story!
Cheers, AC, always appreciate reading your take on the various threads.
You probably know more about it than I do...I only spent two field seasons in the Territory working on remote projects and I loved it.
But you obviously are much wiser.
Well while making deals, we should cede New York ConnetticuttVermont and Massachuttes to Quebec and Ontario. These states are keen to be like the Canadians. The Matitimes, Maine and New Hampshire can cast their lots with the new amalgamation
