Look up who's running Alberta now.

If they came in, they wouldn't necessarily be a reliably Republican state.

“And that's why the Canadian government will never let Alberta secede. It's the golden goose, the gravy train, the pot o’gold. They can't let it go or they'd have to earn their own money.”

There's a lot of money involved but would the Canadian central government kill over 750,000 of its fellow countrymen to keep the money flowing?

Based on what others have done, I'd say yes they would.

“The rationale for this is simple: As bad as it is for them in Canada now, they know it would be far, far worse if they had to deal with a swamp-infested den of corruption known as the U.S. Federal government. Ottawa is a bunch of crooked bureaucrats, but they’re feckless and often inept. Washington is far, far worse.”

This.

Stay away from Washington’s two million page Federal Register if you can. The United States of America was once based on the consent of the governed but that ended with the disaster at Appomattox.

We’ll trade California for the Yukon Territory.

This winter has actually been really mild, with the weather just around the freezing point most of the time.

But this weekend, for 4-5 days, we get the edge of that “polar vortex” too, with -20 degree weather ... then back to mild weather at next week’s end.

It can get really brutal here for some entire winters though, you are correct.

Kill them? No. Enslave them? Yes. Lives mean less than money to politician, and both pale before power.

“And it is the aging population of Quebec that benefits the most from this income transfer.”

Well there’s the problem, it’s the French, again! While Canada is shucking off Alberta, they might want to consider forcing Quebec to “reunify” with France.
And with that, Canada could also unburden itself with this dual language BS.

Alberta: Can It Be Our 51st state?

I think if that happened, then the floodgates would open and most of Canada's remaining provinces would seek to join also. There was strong talk when it looked like Quebec was going to secede, that the Maritime provinces would immediately request to join.

” However of the provinces west of Quebec, it seemed like BC and Alberta would both probably rather join the States as opposed to the other provinces west of Quebec.”

Why not also add in Saskatchewan and Manitoba? Aren't they clones of Alberta in terms of oil and farming?

Well, sure, I'm for it, but aren't Canadian Conservatives about politically equal with say, old school democrats in the US, or GOPe?

Asking, not sayin...

If Democrats ever abolish the Electoral System, which provides States protection, the whole country will only get back $0.65 for every dollar sent to coastal LA & NY.

Re-Establish the U.S. Senate !!

Would Alberta understand:
1) that healthcare is no longer free
2) that they inherit $21 billion in debt
3) that they can check in, but they can’t check out (“Lincoln settled that”), ever; if they want to secede, they’ll be called “neo-Confederates”
?

Imperialist as France is, a transfer-paymentless Quebec would be a net drain. Culturally, the French view Quebecois like the Quebecois view Cajuns.

Tru-do-do is stupid. Pipelines are the safest method to transport oil and least environmentally intrusive. Less spills with pipelines, less cost to transport the fluids, and least cost on their beloved “global warming”.

To get an idea of how over-governed we are, know that annual increase in the Federal Register is measured in pounds, not pages.

The Canucks I know who come to Palm Springs, lament they miss the snow,....but I assure them I just look up at the mountains whenever I miss it, and it sure beats the shovel and slush (not to mention the 50 below temperature risks).

We just had a nasty cold snap and it isn’t getting above 64degF at anytime this week, and dipping down to 43F at night,...with rain.

We need to go back, not forward:

48 contiguous states - and we would never have had to deal with Barry Soetoro.
