Ben Stein’s Socialist Smackdown
American Spectator ^ | Evan Maguire

Posted on 02/03/2019 2:35:22 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Last Tuesday, The American Spectator’s Ben Stein pulled no punches while discussing socialism on Fox Business. Speaking on the results of socialism, particularly related to Venezuela, Stein eviscerated the Left’s notion that socialism will produce good results.

His full remarks were:

It depends on education, we have a society in which there are an awful lot of people who have no idea that Stalin, Hitler, Mao Zedong all came to power promising the same kind of things that Miss Ocasio-Cortez is promising and it led to mass murder, it led to dictatorship, it led to genocide.

These promises are old promises and they invariably lead to bad things.

The promise of just saying to people, do what you can within the law to make your life better and your family’s life better, that system works extremely well. Capitalism is a system that allows people to make something of themselves instead of oppressing other people. It’s an incredibly good system. Making money is one of the most harmless things there is to do in the whole world, and that is what our society is about.

It’s not about ordering people around, putting them in concentration camps, What do you do if a person is a richer or poorer person? What do you do? Do you take him away? Do you shoot him? Well, that’s what the communists tried, it didn’t work out very well for them. At the end of the day, we wound up with Russia as one of the most unequal societies there has ever been in the world.

In Vietnam, they were promised all these things, and we wound up with one of the most corrupt countries in the world.

Evan Maguire is 110% correct.

And how did this come about in America?

This tells the tale very well, a must read:

the proponents of socialism don’t care about helping people, they just envy people who are better off.

Truth. Envy is a terrible thing that always leads to violence as a means of making things “fair”. Trouble is the proletariat suffers to feed the the leaders’ greed. Equal misery for all but the elites. We’ve seen this movie before.

Liberals (leftists, socialists, etc.) always say that Hitler wasn’t a socialist, he was a fascist. First of all, how are those mutually exclusive? And secondly, even if Hitler ultimately rejected the ideals of socialism, he came to power as a socialist. And once he had the power that socialism requires, no one could stop him from becoming a tyrant. That’s the greatest flaw of socialism: no safety checks on government. Capitalism has flaws, but it is voluntary. It can’t make laws and use them to throw you in prison or execute you.

Exodus 20:17 - "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

The harm done by socialism and similar jealousy-based views of the world is the reason why God put envy in the Ten Commandments, along with murder, adultery, theft, and perjury. Envy harms the individual who feels envy, it harms the individual who is the target of envy, and it undermines the culture as a whole.

If you go look on DU, as I occasionally do, they always say that none of the socialist countries were really socialist, but kleptocracies that masqueraded as socialist countries.

They are of course confusing cause and effect. Once you have socialism, a kleptocracy is an inevitable result. Try explaining that to them, of course.

Someone once said “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

Always seemed like a good idea to me.

Socialism, as described by Marx, violates the first, eighth and tenth commandments. In practical implementation most socialist regimes violate the other seven as well.

Exactly right.

But you have deliberately ignorant people, such as the current pope, who tell us that Socialism and Christianity are close to each other.

It could not be further from the truth.

The socialists say this time will be different and so do I, but not in the way the socialists do.
This time they don’t have the secrecy they had to take over.
Nothing happens anymore without the whole world seeing it.
Everybody already knows what they are trying to do.
Unlike the other attempts, where what they were doing didn’t overly jeopardize the economies of other countries, it does now and the whole world is aware of that.
Where they were able to disarm the populations before the bloodbaths started, they won’t be able to disarm the American people and the bloodbath will start before they finalize their control.

Meet the new boss same as the old boss.
They mean to vote themselves largess of the US Treasury by democratic means. (Mobocracy) they love the idea of punishing their ‘oppressors’.
At least in their so called ‘socialist’ countries, the citizens pay higher taxes for their own benefit. (Germany has a 10% employee tax and a 10% employer tax for health care. *We would need a total of 14.5% (29% total) from each to maintain what we have now.

This time they don’t have the secrecy they had to take over.

This time the socialists have a new and unique strategy.

The primary source of socialist indoctrination was the colleges and universities who loaded down the dumbed-down student bodies with mountains of debt for courses that will never have value in the capitalist market place.

For most of these students, their only hope is to elect socialist leaders who promise to kill the capitalist system and let the newly founded socialist vampire feed on the corpse. In return for their votes for the socialist agenda, the students will be promised release from their student loans and equal pay for cool, respected jobs like Starbucks baristas and their equivalent.

The people in Jamestown and Plymouth Colony in the early 1600's also believed that Christianity and socialism were intrinsically linked together.

When socialism created nothing but mass starvation and even rumors of cannibalism, it was abandoned in favor of a free market system (which BTW immediately flourished).

Yes. Even in the shining star of socialism, Sweden, it was the people who had political connections that got access to the best subsidized opera tickets, apartments, universities, etc. There’s nothing “fair” about socialism at all.

Fascists are socialists that intend to impose socialism on society using force. It’s that simple. Mussolini was one of the first. They were left wing thugs, but I repeat myself.

God's message has not changed in 3,000 years, and neither has Satan's. The other side merely repackages the same lies that have tempted so many for all of recorded history.

When my kids were in K-12 I told them that the difference between Capitalism and Socialism can be compared to a pie. In Capitalism, there is not one pie. There can be as many pies as we want there to be. There is no size to the pie and every piece is different.

In Socialism, there is only one pie. The pie has a fixed dimension and assume that half of the pie is already allocated to the elites who believe in this crap. The rest of us are given a very small piece of pie which can be taken from us if we argue about the piece.
