RALEIGH, N.C. To improve school safety, North Carolina schools needs to ramp up training for law enforcement and educators, improve physical security at schools, gather better information about potential threats, and invest in more mental health support for schools, according to a state panel formed in the wake of a mass shooting at a Florida high school a year ago.
The Special Committee on School Shootings, part of the Governor's Crime Commission, presented its final report and 33 recommendations to Gov. Roy Cooper on Thursday.
"When parents send their kids to school, they expect them to be out of harms way, and we owe it to these kids and their families to make sure our schools are safe environments for learning," Cooper said in a statement.

The High Schools in Cumberland Country have “resource officers” which are County Sherrif’s Deputies. And they are armed.

The article is from WRAL. Did you see something from the Charlotte Disturber?
They're gonna quit common core and being a leftist indoctrination establishment?
Whodathunkit? d;^)
They should permit teachers with concealed carry permits to carry in the schools - not issue guns to teachers or require teachers to carry, just permit those who are qualified and choose to do so. That would be free - far cheaper than hiring non-teaching staff just for that purpose.
They going to also require the resource officers actually respond and defend students in the case of an event on campus?
There's a sentence you don't see every day.
This proposal treats the symptom not the disease.
The disease is kids that have not learned that there is always someone in authority over them and they must respect that authority. And that authority needs to be worthy of respect. The authority may be a parent, teacher, peer or coach OR it may be a police officer, court and jailer. It will always be somebody. Hopefully if all these are absent, the child will give that authority to a loving God.
From the beginning it is the responsibility of the parent to teach the child that the world is not about them, and to fit into a complex but wonderful world, they need to recognize authority, accept it or reap the consequences.
The brings me to the fact that in our school system there are NO consequences for not recognizing authority.
Yep. Not allowed on FR.
“Not allowed on FR.”
I completely understand that. CO is a snake pit.
We’ve had those here for decades...................
Mr. Serling, paging Mr. Rod Serling please pick up the White Courtesy Phone for a Message.
Captain Kirk was just seen on the Left wing removing parts, they seem to be labeled with newsprint from the charlotte unobserver bird cage liner.
NO! They had this at Parkland Florida. How did THAT work out?
Arm TEACHERS! They will protect their students (as well as themselves). The armed “security” will be RIGHT WHERE THE SHOOTER IS. Not watching 20 minute old video in some safe distant secluded room.
The shooter will NOT know WHO is/will be armed.
This is so OBVIOUS as the absolutely right way to protect students, I just don’t understand why it isn’t apparent to everyone else!
Gotta Air uh; BUS Marshall on each vehicle??
Keep yer darn kids at home and teach them yourselves!
We are tired of the whining!!
Resource officer is Pc for we have a cop on campus
Who’s whining? I was just mentioning a fact.
Oh; not you; but the multitudes of ‘parents’ who want their children safe from EVERYTHING!
