Justin Fairfax’s accuser says she also was raped by a basketball player at Duke
The (Raleigh) News & Observer ^ | February 9, 2019 | Steve Wiseman

The woman who has accused Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of raping her while they were Duke students 20 years ago also says a Duke basketball player raped her.

In response to Fairfax’s denials, Meredith Watson’s lawyer released a statement claiming she was also raped by a basketball player and, when she reported the attack to a school administrator, received no assistance.

The player’s name was not released nor was the name of the school administrator.

According to a report in The News & Observer in 1999, Duke went through a major reshuffling at its administrative level. Several administrators had the title of dean during at least part of that year.

“Mr. Fairfax has chosen to attack his victim again,” Watson’s lawyer, Nancy Erika Smith, wrote in the statement, “now smearing her with the typical ‘she’s nuts’ defense. He revealed that Ms. Watson was the victim of a prior rape. That is true. Ms. Watson was raped by a basketball player during her sophomore year at Duke. She went to the Dean, who provided no help and discouraged her from pursuing the claim further. Ms. Watson also told friends, including Justin Fairfax.”

USA Today reported the alleged rape by the basketball player occurred in 1999. Duke University spokesman Keith Lawrence told USA Today the school is “looking into” the allegation. Attempts to reach Lawrence on Saturday were unsuccessful.

The statement from Watson’s attorney said Fairfax used knowledge of her prior rape to plan his own attack on her in 2000.

“She left a campus party when he arrived, and he followed her out,” Smith wrote in her statement. “She turned and asked: ‘Why did you do it?’ Mr. Fairfax answered: ‘I knew that because of what happened to you last year, you’d be too afraid to say anything.’ Mr. Fairfax actually used the prior rape of his ‘friend’ against her when he chose to rape her in a premeditated way.”

Fairfax denied Watson’s allegation in a statement Friday, The Washington Post reported, saying it was “demonstrably false. I have never forced myself on anyone ever.”

Lauren Burke, the Democratic lieutenant governor’s spokesperson, told the Post that Fairfax is “calling for an investigation on all of these matters.”

Fairfax faces calls from many fellow Democrats to resign after Watson’s accusation followed one by Scripps College professor Vanessa Tyson, who accused Fairfax of assaulting her at the Democratic National Convention in 2004, as the Post and others reported.

The Sanford School of Public Policy’s Visitors Board at Duke University is asking Fairfax to step down from his role as a member of the board, according to the Duke Chronicle. Fairfax served on the board from 2008 to 2014 and returned in 2015.

Virginia is already reeling from a political scandal since a photo of someone in blackface surfaced on Gov. Ralph Northam’s medical school yearbook page. Northam has denied that he is in the photo. If Northam steps down, Fairfax is next to line to become governor.

If both Fairfax and Northam resign, Attorney General Mark Herring would become governor. Herring has also admitted to wearing blackface in college.

Republican Kirk Cox, speaker of the Virginia House, would become governor if all three resign.

Staff writer Rashaan Ayesh contributed.

At that level of government, it's necessary that everyone has blackmail material on them.

See Dennis Hastert, John Roberts and Racist Ralph Northam.

This is why the Media-Government complex has flipped out daily about Trump for three years - they can't blackmail him.

Was the alleged rape in 2000 before or after Fairfax was elected a Young Trustee?

DSG elects Fairfax Young Trustee
College/University Newspaper
February 17, 2000 | Chronicle, The (Duke University) (Durham, NC)
Author: KIA WRIGHT | Section: News

After greeting and hugging a group of well-wishers and supporters, Justin Fairfax explained how he felt in one word: “Blessed.”

A smiling Fairfax left last night’s Duke Student Government meeting as the University’s new Young Trustee.

“I feel like this process was difficult and took a lot of effort, but I would have not gotten this far if it had not been for people like my mother, my fraternity brothers, my family and friends,” the Trinity senior said elatedly.

Trinity senior Jeremy Huff, vice president for community interaction, explained the weighty duty of the DSG legislators yesterday evening in one simple sentence-”There is one item on the agenda, and that is the selection of the Young Trustee.”

Huff began the meeting by reading the text containing late President Terry Sanford’s original description of the Young Trustee: “A trustee is literally expected to have the trust of the institution which he or she serves.”

Sanford created the position in the 1970s to increase student involvement in administrative matters and to bring a young perspective to the Board.

Immediately following Huff’s introduction, Lisa Zeidner, Brian Stempel and Fairfax-the three Young Trustee finalists-gave their individual speeches.

After each speech, the candidate answered questions from the legislators.

Fairfax began his speech by thanking DSG for its exhaustive reading of his application and extending a heartfelt thanks to his family and friends for their support.

As Young Trustee, he said, he planned to address three critical areas-residential life, financial aid and community interaction.

In addition to being a resident adviser, Fairfax has also been the president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the only minority greek selective house on campus.

He said his intense experience in various activities has “imminently prepared him for life after graduation and for the role of Young Trustee.”

“The more students you know, the more visible you become to any body that you are a member of,” he said, explaining that his work with diverse groups made him better suited for his new role.

“My participation in a broad range of academic and extracurricular groups will help me to bring a broad range of opinions to the Board,” he said.

Jus wait until some White Dude in Blackface Rapes someone.

Rape while wearing Blackface will be ruled a Hate Crime and a Capital Offense.

The Woman “allegedly” implied that the Lieutenant Governor tried to use the prior Rape to shame her into not disclosing that he had also Raped her.

Sure. Your diddlebrain told you that you were raped, when it was actually not rape. You needed the publicity - we understand.

At Duke, the rapists are lacrosse players, not basketball players.

Coach K wouldn’t allow rape

“Duke. Again.”

In more ways than one. Just as the left is being hoist on its own petard, we have freepers running interference for them.

I believe the term is useful idiots.

How are they running interference. The woman said she was raped by a duke basketball player and the admin did nothing. Duke now says they will investigate.

That should've been your response to post #2 which was Wayne's. Did you respond to Wayne, ladyjane? I assumed post #2 was a joke so I responded to it jokingly. I'm surprised the mods didn't pull post #2 before I responded, though in fairness they hadn't had time as the thread was new. No, I would not want such tragedy to happen. Any tragedy. To anyone.

I read that book the summer before my daughter started college. It was very scary as a parent but looking back it was accurate unfortunately.

You can hardly blame a young man for patterning his behavior after the President of the United States, can you?

It does sound like Bill Clinton's mode of operation, so you have a good point there.

I think you are confusing the reaction people would have to a rape that actually occurred, and the reaction people have to rapes that may or may not have occurred. In particular, we have unfortunately seen a number of recent accusations of sexual assault in political contexts, like the one being discussed here, where the supposed victim turned out to be lying.

It does seem somewhat unlikely that a college girl would be raped twice within 2 years in college by people she knew and (a) not report either crime to the police, (b) repeatedly put herself in circumstances where the kind of behavior she alleges would have occurred, and (c) decide to report the second alleged rape now, in a political context.

The recent accusations of sexual assaults employed as a tactic in political disputes unfortunately reflect badly on everyone making similar accusations. In some cases those people really are victims, and for them the pain and suffering is magnified since their claims are discounted. They are sadly paying the price for the actions of the fake accusers whose goals are political in nature.

dems had to do something with all of the accusers they have lined up for the next Republican Supreme Court nominee. They rounded them up after the Justice Kavanaugh hearings but RBG is holding on longer than they expected. They had to set off that bomb somewhere and got a dem as collateral damage.
