I still don’t understand all the complaints coming from conservatives.

Boy Scouts has become SCOUTS. So what. A title change.

Girls can now be part of their own SCOUTS organization. No boys needed.

Boys are still part of their own SCOUTS organization. No girls allowed.

Some Troops might be started as coed.

It reduces the number of Girl Scout organizations. Another good thing.

Conservatives should be the ones complaining about this. BSA fought the concept of embracing the coarse common culture for over 100 years, even to the point of winning a Supreme Court decision to allow them to limit their membership.

In 2013, in a secret vote, the caved to allow homosexual boys. Not long after in uncertain order, homosexual adult leaders, transgender and female youth.

It’s a perfect example of the slippery slope theory. Once you cave on one core principle, there is no moral authority to not cave on any of them.

As they grow up, boys need to be boys and need strong male mentorship. Take one look at the black community to see what a complete lack of male influence and authority begets.

A Cub Scout leaders was quoted as saying he prefers girls because they are more genteel and focused, ie: easier to control.

I saw a video clip the other day of a little girl on a slide, slowly sliding down and gently putting her feet on the ground and walking away. Immediately, her brother comes blowing off the slide arms and legs flailing as he rolls headfirst onto the ground.

That’s the difference between boys and girls. Boys need to be with boys.

Scouting is supposed to be boy led. Some believe that in the not too distant future, the majority of troops will be led by female youth because girls are generally a bit more organized in the teen years than boys. This will accomplish nothing but to deprive young men of their chance and opportunity to lead other young men.

Thankfully, there is an option that is directly antithetical to the common culture, Trail Life USA, which is a boys only program and above the age of ten, requires adult male leadership so men can model manhood. traillifeusa.com

In my troop and other large troops, Scouts is a family activity in which daughters have tagged along. Now they can participate in advancement and leadership activities. (it has not yet actually come about but it will)

Over the years there are quite a few of registered women as assistant scoutmasters or troop committeemen. Some even have made the effort to take the extensive Wood Badge training.

We have an integral venture crew for what we call senior scouts that are high adventure oriented. They are backpackers. Girls 14 and over can participate and have for some time now. There are not lots of them mind you but they are members of the troop. In 2017, we had our first wedding of troop scouts. Both finished college and then got married.

From my point of view, small marginal troops have been lost. They suffered from inadequate adult leadership and often did not actually organize themselves according to the BSA method. Adults often did not trust the boys to lead.

The large troops thrive and use the patrol method for organization and leadership training. It works well. We have about an equal split between scouts and scouters. The numbers for each are 65 or 70 scouts and scouters. The adults are not all active but still contribute as merit badge counselors or with some specific talent.

We have an active program of out door activities. there are trips to all sorts of places. We have been featured in Boys Life three times. The most recent article noted a hike up the mountain to the Machu Pichu ruins. Another article featured an overnight on a nuclear missile submarine. We have crews that often visit Sea Base in the Keys and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. We will send a group to the upcoming National Jamboree.

Folks here rant and rave about the immoral BSA. Presently, we are learning that there are more queers in the Los Angeles diocese than in all of BSA put together. Unlike BSA, churches do not have very effective youth protection programs that alert the group to abuse by adults be they Scouters, priests or choir directors.

Our sponsoring institution is a Presbyterian church
