If the victim were a young girl, they’d have executed HER.

Giuseppe Zangara shot Chicago mayor Anton Cermak (missing his main target, FDR) on Feb. 15, 1933. Cermak died on March 6, at which point Zangara was indicted, tried, convicted and then executed on March 20 - two weeks after his indictment.
