High taxes forced women into the workplace so families could keep up.
I share mixed feelings about the women-in-the-workforce statistic because it makes me wonder about what is happening to the culture and to the children while the mothers work. However, the TAX POLICIES of the United States and the accompanying problems with the costs of housing and life basics are very skewed against one-income, working male head-of-household families. These so-called “conservatives” have not been very persuasive or powerful in the face of government demands on families so it honestly makes me sick to hear them complain about measures that assist working women.
I say this as part of a one-income family. Do something that makes one-income families more likely, and then have the luxury of complaining about Ivanka Trump and her efforts to support working families!!

If women worked it generally wasn't out of economic necessity because they needed two incomes to survive.
What changed?
Why do we now need two incomes?
It seems to me wages began a long period of stagnation in the 70s' and the cost of living has increased faster than wages.
What were the economic/social shifts?
It’s a political speech reflecting the state of the union, Prager.
If you haven’t heard of the Quiverfull movement, it is an international organization of conservative Christian couples.
The movement sees children as a blessing from God and it encourages procreation, abstaining from all forms of birth control (including natural family planning) and sterilization.
They emphasize:
Homeschooling
Strong moral leadership from parents
A rejection of anti-Christian culture in movies, music, books and electronics
Modest clothing

Importantly, as with Orthodox Jews in Israel, their numbers are increasing far more than are those of the secular people they live near, whose numbers are in decline.
The reason I mention them is that small towns of such conservatives can work wonders in rebuilding America. And in that there are many existing towns that have been abandoned, and would sell for low prices, wealthy conservatives should take to subsidizing such towns to get them up and started.
So when issues like “women in the workplace”, and all the related problems come up, think of Quiverfull and organizations like them, and how by changing their priorities, they are taking an active hand in changing the future to a better one.
While I understand the sentiment for wives staying home, I also understand that wives no longer darn socks or iron ever article of washed clothing.

He forgot to add “with more children in day care or arriving from school to an empty home.”
I’d be happier if the Women-In-White were somewhat normal instead of America-hating, cajones-busting, baby-killing leftist harpies.
