I told my young son once that I could see into his mind and tell what the was thinking. For the next couple of days, I’d see him looking at me with furrowed brows, evidently thinking something provocative to see if I’d pick up on it. When I didn’t he finally figured out the old man was lying...

Kids think literally. I can remember playing jets in the living room one winter, a rather loud activity. Mom came in the room, put her hands on her hips and said. “With a voice like that, you would make a great preacher.”

I remember thinking, “if I keep making noise I have to be a preacher, I’m not sure I want to be a preacher, I think I will be quiet.”
