SAN DIEGO—Approximately 90 feet of secondary border wall has been built to replace an old fence in San Diego, California... The new secondary 30-foot-high steel wall will replace a 16-foot stamp-steel mesh fence... Construction began on Feb. 18. It is the fifth border wall section under President Donald Trump’s administration, according to news reports on Feb. 20. The construction project replaces 12.5 miles of existing barrier from the Pacific Ocean to the base of Otay Mountain in San Diego. A new one-and-a-half mile portion of the barrier will be added, making the entire 30-foot wall 14 miles long. The vertical steel bollards will go 6-feet deep and will be filled with concrete.

They began demolishing the border wall prototypes yesterday, to make way for the new permanent barrier to run through that spot. The foundations for the new 30 footers seem to be a good six feet thick in the photo accompanying the article. These new 30 footers (with all the new technology going in with them) are going to basically shut the door through San Diego. Just the "little" new 18 foot bollard primary barrier (below) has already greatly quieted down that area.

Say goodbye to the old prototypes - the new permanent 30 foot barrier is coming through that spot soon.

That's why they also make "all the new technology going in with them"

They can’t start NEW wall with any Dec of Emerg money in AZ, NM, or CA because it would allow parties there to have “standing” to sue to stop it.

So all that can be built there are either 1) replacement walls (as I understand it, funded by the 2017 Omibus); 2) new walls built with the non-DoE money that Trump is using; 3) new walls built with the $1.7b in authorized 2019 money.

Trump will target TX (5th circuit, heavily R) for all DoE building. If a suit comes up there, it will likely be crushed.

LOVE it! Winning! President Trump has it right: Every time ‘rats get in his face, up the height of the wall by ten feet! Pretty soon it’s going to be 40, then 50, etc.

New wall is a coming over the next couple of generations. That’s
only seven centuries since Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

Someday robot alien illegals detect weakness in wall security and AI handler in DC (dare I say Obama’s headquarters?) has them battle android border guards, all shown on a 50 foot wide TV screen in a bunker.

“That’s why they make 40 foot ladders.”

That’s close to what Rick Perry the governor of Texas said when he was running for president. He said and I believe it was something along the lines of “if you build a 30-foot wall you’ll have a run on 32 foot ladders”

At the time I thought it was pretty witty because at that point in time I don’t think they were talking about a whole bunch of infrastructure or other security issues backing up the barrier. Which is a more sensible approach as the wall alone would not be enough.

That's good, cause Texas is were the majority of foreign nationals are entering our country illegally.

What the American people don’t know, don’t understand or can’t reason out is surely going to kill them one of these days. This is a process not a 30 minute TV series with 10 minutes out for commercials and a scripted happy ending.

==============================================

Exactly. The wall isn't meant to be a 100% standalone solution.

It's meant to be a deterrent and to slow those down who do try to use a 32 foot ladder (for example). Once slowed down, that's when the technology and increased border patrol can be used to either prevent (further deter) or take into custody those that persist.

We will never really be able to prevent 100% of the illegal border crossings, but if we can reduce them by 75% or more, that would be a good start. Then, we can work on removing the Visa overstays, 100% requirement for e-Verify, eliminating taxpayer services, etc. etc.

It all really should have been done a long time ago, but this is the incompetent federal gov't we're talking about here and a largely indifferent population that has put up with it (at least until recently).

Thanks for the numbers.

Why does CA have 1/4 the number of apprehensions that TX does?

Perhaps the Border Patrol wants to catch illegals in Texas ...

What are actual costs expected to be? Thought the whole thing was to be 11 billion, the emergency declaration only seals fifty miles for 1.3 billion more.
