Do you ever get the feeling that news stories come and go faster than they used to? Ask anyone in the news business. It's real. The O.J. Simpson story lasted about a year. Now, it feels like there is an O.J. a week.
Maybe it's the effect of staring at screens all day, jumping from snippet to snippet. Our brains have been rewired to think only in the present tense. Or maybe there is a lot more news than there used to be. Some world historic crisis hits every four days, knocking the last world historic crisis from our collective consciousness forever.
Once upon a time people had a chance to digest their disasters. The Titanic, for example, sank in April of 1912. In 1982, the New York Times wrote a front page feature about Titanic survivors. Seventy years later, people still remembered the story. Can you remember what happened 70 days ago? How about 56 days ago? Think back to that cobweb-shrouded period in our history. It was January of 2019. The federal government had just shut down. The president said we needed a border wall. The Democrats scoffed at him. They claimed the entire immigration crisis was "manufactured." The news media heartily weighed in on that debate. In case you can't remember whose side the media took, they called it, in clip after clip, a "manufactured crisis."

These are people CAUGHT. How many are NOT being caught along our 1,954 mile border with Mexico, and disappearing into the interior of this country? I estimate only 25% are caught, which makes the number of people invading this country at 2 million illegal aliens a year.
We need to use the government's OWN statistics to show the nature of this illegal, hostile invasion.
THIS IS A NATIONAL EMERGENCY.
Add about a million visa overstays and another million legal immigrants mostly with no allegiance to the US. Cultural suicide.
With current laws, and the current way of interpreting those laws, you can build a hundred foot wall, and put the entire army on the border, and those people are still coming in, with an escort to the nearest bus station.
We have to build the wall, but we absolutely have to fix the law.
Interesting. We forget, but there was a time when the news wasn’t instantaneous...we forget.
I was watching the episode “1968” from the HBO series “From The Earth to The Moon”, and it covers the Apollo 8 mission that orbited the moon and on Christmas Eve of that awful year, they got that picture of Earthrise and read the Book of Genesis bible passages. It made me choke up to watch it...in such a tumultuous time, to see and hear that from the Moon.
But in the episode, Bobby Kennedy was shot the previous night, and they show the Borman family having breakfast, and one of the boys walks in with the delivered paper which they begin reading, only to see the news from the night before about the assassination.
I thought that was an interesting perspective.
We mostly have chain migration and a perverse distortion of the 14th amendment to thank for these.
Some say 22 million is the number another democrat gift all in the name for a vote and socialism.
Exactly. Those are the “LEGAL” ones which turn ILLEGAL, and the others who often not only do not share our values, but are openly and unashamedly hostile to them.
Of course, that covers the Left in our country as well...
Absolutely right - a wall by itself isn’t going to put an end to this problem. Ending birthright citizenship and chain migration, together with making it much more difficult to get “guest worker” status is just as necessary. Unfortunately, we aren’t hearing much about any of these from anyone in Washington today.
If we had laid a two thousand mile mine field while arguing about the wall we would have bought some time.....

The recent Yale study had it at a minimum of about 22 million and a max around 29 million.
The 11 million nonsense was crap that the Pew Center kept putting out. Note that the Pew Center changed its name from the Pew Hispanic Center not too long ago to avoid being unmasked.

That’s the talking point sent out to all the rinos, etc. as an excuse for inaction. Knowing damn well the rats will never fix the asylum laws. POTUS can stop all immigration for whatever reason(8 United States Code Section 1182 F—not that he needs permission from congress). The fact that this is not being done should ALARM EVERYONE!
These guys had two years to fix things and sat on their hands. But we have the Supreme Court now; we should use it.
Until only a few years ago, if they caught you crossing illegally, they logged your name and you (and your family) were back across the border that same day.
Selective judicial rulings have tied BP’s hands... but those things can be challenged if you have a majority on the Supreme Court, which we do. So I agree, Trump should simply exercise his constitutional authority, and stop playing the “asylum” game. And let the Supremes back him up.

Looks like there are some Republicans coming out of the closet — Cruz, Rand Paul, etc.
I expect Cruz will vote to support Trump. He just won’t actually stand up and support him. Bare minimum Cruz you could call him. Rand is lost. Apparently, he wants to be a cult leader. His time as a national figure is over if he says there is no border emergency now.

If Trump had the support of his own party he could work around a lot of the activist court attacks. But obviously the GOP hamstrings him at every opportunity.
The left knows how many illegal votes will be needed to defeat Trump. NOTHING has been done by the GOP or President to do anything to counter the left coming to 2020. The Midterms were the test run and worked magnificently for the DNC.
