Why?

Because the longer and more intense the border problem grows, the more influence Trump garners for his argument for his national emergency declaration. The court will weigh all the “evidence” - including the so-called campaign rhetoric, and Dem assertion of Trump’s predisposition of bias against minorities. The president needs as much evidentiary weight as possible on his side of the argument when this issue eventually goes before the SCOTUS.

MR.....Trump???

Used Mr. several times in the article.....

Jerks!

Times stylistic policy. They referred to him as President Trump in the first paragraph and then Mr. Trump for the rest of the article. They did the same for Obama and all the other presidents.

In the decision last year in the Supreme Court, ( Hawaii vs Trump) the Court said that the President has absolute power to suspend immigration. Explain to me why that is not being done. We don’t have 6 months!! It is not a matter of securing contracts . It is a matter of shutting down the border.

What is your argument on the presidents handling of immigration or do you just name call and think you are senior to anyone? Adios.

Why isn’t he transferring the money he promised. Why is he not spending the $1.4 Billion passed by Congress. Why are troops and razor wire not being deployed. What the hell is he doing?

To get the commies on record that they don't care about border security.

“To get the commies on record that they don’t care about border security.” Ha. Well that worked but we now have 100,000 illegal aliens pouring in a month. Enough already. The communists are now marked. ( and many are in our party)

Do you understand civics at all?

Congress appropriates money by line item.
The money must be spent as it was appropriated by Congress.
The President CANNOT hold up or redirect funds as he pleases.
The President CANNOT appropriate his own funds.
Look up the Impoundment Act (Nixon)

You seem to have this notion that the President is a dictator who may do as he pleases - that’s not how it works.
If you need another reason as to why things are going as they are, see post 21.

Either get an education in civics, or get off this thread. You obviously don’t know jack, and are here just to troll. As I stated earlier, your hysterical posts seem exactly like the temperament of a guy who was banned a few weeks ago.

Tell me, bright one - just how in the hell will “shutting down the border” stop illegal entry?

Close ports of entry, and that will do what, exactly, to stop illegal entry at non-points of entry?

Would you like Trump to place the entirety of the US military along the 2000 miles of our southern border?

Just, exactly what would you like to do?

Since you come here as such a flaming know-it-all, let’s see all your ideas ... I’ll wait (crickets).

Seems a lot more family units are involved now as compared to the past.......

In February 2019, there were 66,450 Southwest border apprehensions, with 42,999 or 65% of the apprehensions were family units or unaccompanied minors.
(Apprehensions are considered a proxy for illegal entry.) In February 2019, 55% of Southwest border apprehensions were family units compared to only 3% as
recently as February 2013.

“Are we only getting 700 miles now or is this fake news? “

My reading is that the $8.6 billion he is requesting for next year would build the 700 miles (at over $12 million per mile) - which when added with what he has already contracted, and is planned to contract this year; would complete the whole planned program.

As soon as the Trump Administration took office and issued the Border Security Executive Order, comprehensive planning was initiated, for a comprehensive solution to achieving “Full Operational Control” of the Southern Border.

The completed plan was delivered to Congress in March of 2018. It called for building a total of 1,100 miles of strong barrier, thousands of more full time personnel (Border Patrol, ICE and judges), and several technology programs, for a total of $25 billion over five years.

The plan targets the highest traffic areas first. The door is going to be pretty well shut in San Diego by Christmas, with what is already done, or under contract. What it looks like they will contract this year will make a major difference in the Rio Grande Valley (and elsewhere). President Trump is really getting to the point in the program where what they do will start taking big bites out of the traffic - which is why the Democrats have started fighting so hard to stop it.

2017 and 2018 funding has built around 40 miles of barrier (top of the line stuff), with 80 more miles contracted (breaking ground in the next few weeks and months). The money they just got ($1.4 billion appropriation, and several billion more in emergency re-programming) is going to target the Rio Grande Valley first - which is the hardest, most expensive, and most highly trafficked part of the border. Wall down there runs $20-25 million per mile. At least 150 of those most expensive miles are needed.

They had planned to contract a total of 234 miles this year for $5.7 billion, but they will have more money if all the emergency re-programming comes through (possibly over $8 billion total this year), so figure around 300 miles this year (including the hardest and most expensive parts). If the Rio Grande Valley gets buttoned up, everything after that gets cheaper, easier, and quicker to build; so 700 miles onto contract next year is possible (more long runs in the flat deserts).

120 miles already contracted, plus 300 this year, and 700 next year would build the 1,100 miles in the comprehensive plan submitted to Congress.

Meanwhile, the rural areas without barrier should start to see more police presence, and a variety of new technology capabilities are starting to roll out. There is so much time to detect and intercept in those extremely rural areas (often days) that the additional delay and deterrence provided by barrier becomes relatively insignificant, compared to the terrain itself.

"Why isn’t he transferring the money he promised. Why is he not spending the $1.4 Billion passed by Congress. Why are troops and razor wire not being deployed."

3-6 months of contracting lead time. Bidding doesn't start until the money is received/certified, after award there is a month or two to start work.

Troops are currently deployed emplacing concertina, among other border functions. Their mission has been extended through the end of the Fiscal Year, during which time they are expected to emplace a few hundred miles of concertina.

76,000 illegal aliens invaded out country last month. 100,000 are coming this month. What do you propose to stop that cold now?

Enforce the laws we already have on the books.

Deny any kind of 'assistance' to anyone who is not in the country legally.
