CARACAS (Reuters) - As Venezuelas five-day power blackout left homes without water, Lilibeth Tejedor found herself looking for it on Monday in the last place she would have imagined - a drain pipe feeding into a river carrying sewage through the capital, Caracas.
Tejedor, 28, joined dozens of people who had flocked to the Guaire river, which snakes along the bottom of a sharp ravine alongside Caracas main highway, to fill up a four-gallon (15 litre) plastic container.
Unlike the fetid liquid flowing through the Guaire river, the water emerging from the pipe was at least clear. Those who gathered to collect it said the water had been released by local authorities from reservoirs.
They added, however, that it was being carried through unsanitary pipes and should only be used to flush toilets or scrub floors.

This is our future if Occasionally-Coherent and pals ever get control.
They are looking for art supplies, now that they are free from work. They are “investigating science”, as Occasional Cortex would say.
Yay socialism. //sarc// it always leads to totalitarianism. Maduro hasn’t started the mass killing yet and hopes to starve his people into submission before he guns them down. That will happen unless his military realizes that they will be held responsible and be killedthemselves event and hang Maduro first. The good thing is that Venezuela doesn’t have an obesity problem anymore and everyone is getting more exercise. Goals of every docialist regime.
Why dont the swarm the Presidential Palace for crying out loud.
“the water emerging from the pipe was at least clear”
See? Socialism really DOES work!!! /s;)
Fear of lead poisoning.
Oh for crying out loud.
This is what Venezuelas police and military are protecting?
This?
They will have to be taught to appreciate compassionate socialism.
The Police and Military are still getting food, and do not fear the populace. When Venezuelan cops and soldiers start to turn-up dead at the hands of the people, then momentum will shift.
Read the original article. Reuters is so diabolical. They never question Maduro’s role or socialism’s never-ending downside. But be it a republic, and the government is not doing enough. Very subtle how leftists operate.
The longer this socialist baloney goes on in Venezuela, the worse it will be for their police and military.
They need to start pointing their weapons at the Cubans.
Agreed. The government should tax the sewage water. So the little marxist pay their fair share...
Food was already scarce in Venezuela, now water and sanitation are moving in that direction.
Thank you for the update... I have been trying to keep track of this play by play as it unfolds.
Lets rename the formerly modern, prosperous country of Venezuela to “AOC-land”, then buy her and her cronies a one way ticket there to enjoy their vision.
As soon as he starts shooting Russia won’t be able to justify supporting him anymore. My question is where is the UN through this whole thing? Supporting Maduro and his policies?
All the rivers in Venezuela and they have to do this?
I guess Maduro must have the roads blocked.
If I was there, I’d get everyone to pool whatever gasoline / diesel they have stashed or can scavenge; borrow or steal a tank truck , go to a river away from the cities where the water is fairly clean and fill the tank and bring it back so people can at least have a drink. Jerry rig some filters if necessary and, surely, someone has a little bleach left, or chop some wood and boil it.
And if I had to kill soldiers blocking the road.... Well, they chose the wrong side, didn’t they.
