Documents reveal that Isabelle Henriquez gloated about cheating on the SATs after her parents paid more than $1 million dollars to get her into Georgetown University.

If I wanted to improve my kid's prospects in life that bad, I'd put the million bucks in a trust fund accessible to them after the age of 35, by which time their characters would be set. Oh, and I wouldn't tell them, either.

Whether you go to Georgetown or SomeOther U. is unlikely to be worth a million bucks in your earnings outcome after college.

My brother sees them all the time(hires/fires). Their sense of entitlement is almost as large as their lack of knowledge/work ethic. He tells me they expect everything to fall into place(on it’s own), when it doesn’t, they just give up.

No way the students were not aware, especially if someone else took test for them. Guilty as parents.

Alan Dershowitz talked about the state of today’s Universities which explained how an underachiving cheat survives in the Ivy league. The schools pass everyone with As and Bs. A grade of C is a rarity.

AOC is not scholarly at all. She reminds me of a college kid in classroom rattling on and on about social issues or history. Full of sound and fury signifying nothing. Come to think of it, she just talks in circles. And that is what they are taught these days: how to talk in circles.

"Just a question... which criminal codes are being violated?"

Let's say you want your child to get into a prestigious school. You pay a guy a lot of money, and he pays someone else to alter your student's test, or maybe he pays a coach to designate your child as an athlete he wants to recruit for his program. All of this is accomplished through conversations, the mail, the internet, and phone calls.

The Government can bring Federal charges of mail fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy. And those are just the base charges and the most easily provable for the Government. They are going to have to hire EXPENSIVE LAWYERS just to try to keep them out of jail, or minimize the time they have to serve.

At some point the IRS is also going to step in, and there could be more criminal charges of tax evasion. If people haven't reported the money they received in bribes, the IRS will assess huge tax penalties with interest.

These people put themselves into a nightmarish situation.

BU is not Ivy League and not very selective. It used to be pretty conservative under the old President Silber. At least for a Boston school.

I know the SAT is inflated from the old days but this still looks fairly robust to me

Not all of them are white, please dial it down. It is just another form of affirmative action. How the top pays for the bottom.

Exactly.

Mail fraud is one of the main charges. And the IRS is listed as party to the prosecution in the charging documents.

"And the IRS is listed as party to the prosecution in the charging documents."

That makes sense. Another worrisome thing for these people is now that the IRS has them in their sights, the IRS can look at their returns for many many years ago to find evidence to tax fraud. More fines and penalties, and maybe jail time. Case in point: Manafort!

Waiting to see if my daughter was accepted there.

Does she sport a Hispanic last name? Or a first name that includes punctuation marks? That might make a difference.

Already here. It’s called on line degrees.

Some maybe, but not on on line programs are diploma mills.

Guaranteed these kids knew about the admissions.

Also, hard to claim innocence when there are SAT scores for a test they never took.

Obamy was never seen on campus, but he supposedly did quite well in school.

The buck stops at the college. Someone in admissions is the final pay off.

Same with illegals taking US citizens’ desks. Same with scholarships. Compared to scholarships for illegals and minorities, there is very little money for bright white kids. Our kiddo’s dorm mate was and illegal with a full ride. Ticked me off royally. We had to scrimp and save.
