Woodley is male. The other two were female.

Well, in these days, he could always change his mind.

Quartermaster Chief Petty Officer. “The quartermaster is the enlisted member in charge of the watch-to-watch navigation and the maintenance, correction, and preparation of nautical charts and navigation publications. He or she is also responsible for navigational instruments and clocks and the training of ship’s lookouts and helmsmen. He or she performs these duties under the control of the ship’s navigator or other officer if there was no officer navigator. In the modern navy, a quartermaster is a petty officer who specializes in navigation.”

>>As we used to say in the USMC, “S#!t flows downhill.”..................<<

I am pretty sure they say that in every hierarchical bureaucracy. I have never been in the military but we have used that in private industry for at least 40 years. It probably goes back to the days of the Roman Empire. Or cavemen.

The Navy and Air Force have been strong proponents of political correctness and now pay the price. No sympathy from this retired Army Officer.

It's not your grandfather's Navy.

I was in nearly 30 years ago...today's Navy wasn't my Navy, either. I'm not saying that officers and enlisted didn't have issues with one another, but we were always professional enough not to let them get in the way of our mission.

<>While I was in the Naval Reserve I often stood radar watch while we were under way. I’d like to know what really happened in this case.

There were radar repeaters located at the lookout stations on the bridge wings of my ship. I don't see it as possible to miss something as big as a merchant ship!

I don’t agree - he may be able to stick around for 20, but he’ll have to change designator to something like PAO and find a minority flag officer sea daddy to ever reach O5.
