McConnell blocks resolution calling for Mueller report to be released publicly

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Monday blocked a resolution calling for special counsel Robert Mueller's report to be released publicly.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) asked for unanimous consent for the nonbinding resolution, which cleared the House 420-0, to be passed by the Senate following Mueller's submission of his final report on Friday.

"Whether or not you're a supporter of President Trump ... there is no good reason not to make the report public," Schumer said from the floor. "It's a simple request for transparency. Nothing more, nothing less."

But McConnell objected, noting that Attorney General William Barr is working with Mueller to determine what in his report can be released publicly and what cannot. "The special counsel and the Justice Department ought to be allowed to finish their work in a professional manner," McConnell said. "To date, the attorney general has followed through on his commitments to Congress. One of those commitments is that he intends to release as much information as possible."

Under Senate rules, any one senator can try to pass or set up a vote on a bill, resolution or nomination. But in turn, any one senator can block their request.

No, this is not the DemonRats M.O. here..

THE DEMONRATS ARE ASKING FOR SOMETHING THEY KNOW THEY CANNOT SEE!

The DemonRats KNOW they legally CANNOT see the entire Mueller report. Once AG Barr tells them that, they can begin their "Barr Cover-Up" campaign and USE THE MEDIA to attack Trump for lack of total transparency and his 'obstruction of justice' for not allowing Congress or the people to see the entire report!

The ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM IS: If the DemonRats want ALL of the Mueller report, THEN THEY MUST ALSO WANT THE FISA APPLICATIONS TOTALLY UNREDACTED THEN, RIGHT?!!!!

Good, the Dems wrote the Independent Council laws and now want to break them.

I’m sure he will weigh the options. The WH lawyers will certainly fight “to protect the institution of the Presidency”, but he may over rule them to make a point.

the most important question being asked this week.

who could seriously believe the never-ending attacks by Dems & FakeNewsMSM on the President re phony Russia Collusion had no effect on the mid-terms?

just thinking about it makes me angry.

Schumer and his minions should be careful what they wish for.

Some of the report CAN NOT be released for various
legal reasons. It is those portions that the left will
say Trump is hiding. They know this and hope to use it
a a political ploy.

That simple

Consequently, after they yammer loud and long enough
the President should unleash those portions incriminating
democrat actors, make them eat it.

I would note that after extensive investigations, while he was not charged, no prosecutor has absolved AndyJackson of the charge of murder of Jimmy Hoffa.

A resolution the next day? This proves they can get off their ass when they want to.

At the same time, any real conservative has to take note of the fact that most of our favorite Republicans are not really very appealing candidates either - making allowances for fraud in certain California districts.

It’s simply a report. It’s against the law to reveal much of it as is any grand jury investigation. It is also an investigation that was used as a political weapon based on a hoax. I am preaching to the choir.

Isn’t that the whole point of a special prosecutor to not allow one-party to try to threaten or railroad an opposition party or figure. They got one he investigated and investigated they don’t get a do-over.

I’m fine with making it public, as long as the classified info is redacted.

I suppose it is. Is that what what you think happened here?

Given that there was never ANY evidence for what was supposed to be the ‘Special Prosecutor’ warrant and HE KNEW IT; how can you go with that?

McConnell doesn’t want the unredacted fisa documents released.
My guess is he thinks/knows Trump will release some or all of what he’s got.

Should just attach one rider to it...add that all money paid to cover up sexual harassment in congress will be revealed.

No chance of that. The #metoo legislation the criminal class passed last December directs that the money paid out be reported but explicitly prohibits identifying the harasser.

S.3749 - Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 Reform Act

(2) RULE OF CONSTRUCTION REGARDING IDENTIFICATION OF HOUSE AND SENATE ACCOUNTS.—Nothing in paragraph (1)(B) may be construed to require or permit the Office of Congressional Workplace Rights to report the account of any specific office of the House of Representatives or Senate as the source of funds used for an award or settlement.

Well a new law can overturn that.
