California Introduces Legislation to Reduce Motor Vehicle Registration Renewals
Legislation (S.B. 460) has been introduced that would change Californias motor vehicle registration cycle from an annual to a biennial (every two years) requirement. The bill will be considered by the Senate Transportation Committee in a hearing on April 9

They want two years worth of registration money sooner, like the first two-years-at-once shot will get them. They have a lot of political capital to spend in the next 15 months.
They just raised the sales tax in many areas of the state, to pay for Cancer treatment, and some transportation causes.
Now they’re talking about charging anyone $4.00 who dares travel west from Los Angeles on the Santa Monica Freeway.
We all breathe. I can’t believe they aren’t taxing us for that yet.
now that’s a sly way to increase fees. Placate the public with an enticement to only pay every other year.
In AZ we have a choice to renew for 1, 2, or 5 years. I like having this choice.

Anyway it appears to be an effort to reduce congestion at the DMV, not a mandatory increase to two-year registrations.
Michigan did something like that with trailer plates.
The demonrat governor, Jenny Grandmole, thought she could cut a fat hog by doubling the price of trailer plates, but making them non-expiring.
Her reasoning was a survey that most people only keep a trailer 4-5 years before they sell it and buy new. Whatever people used to do, it is no longer the case
Now people keep trailers forever because the plates never expire! Home-built trailers are a hot item because it’s hard to prove what plate goes with what trailer. Now one non-expiring plate can be used on a half dozen trailers.
Our vehicals have to be smog checked every two years, SO they can charge us 2 years of registration fees and give themselves a shot in the arm with more money!! I would not want to pay a bill of $450.00 rather than $225.00.!!!! The registration does go down as the car gets older HOWEVER they raise the standards on the smog allocations FORCING folks to purchase new vehicals!! Vehicals in CA. last a very long time because we have no extreme weather conditions, no salt on the roads ect. if you dont commute to work your vehicals will last you a very long time!!!
Either buy new cars or put work into fixing aging emissions components and engine rebuilds. This is why dirty smogs are a big market in this state.
When I read the headline I actually thought they were going to reduce the registration fees!
Silly me.
Alaska has been on a two year cycle for a long time now.
I do too, and permanent trailer tags.
Here is the problem. Ca fees are outrageous to begin with. To have to come up with two years worth at a time you might have to go get a loan.
Well shame on California for letting NY beat them to the hog trough on “congestion pricing”....
Yeah, really...
