Electric vehicles emit more CO2 than diesel ones, German study shows
Brussels Times ^ | April 17, 2019 | Oscal Schneider

When CO2 emissions linked to the production of batteries and the German energy mix - in which coal still plays an important role - are taken into consideration, electric vehicles emit 11% to 28% more than their diesel counterparts, according to the study, presented on Wednesday at the Ifo Institute in Munich.

Mining and processing the lithium, cobalt and manganese used for batteries consume a great deal of energy. A Tesla Model 3 battery, for example, represents between 11 and 15 tonnes of CO2. Given a lifetime of 10 years and an annual travel distance of 15,000 kilometres, this translates into 73 to 98 grams of CO2 per kilometre, scientists Christoph Buchal, Hans-Dieter Karl and Hans-Werner Sinn noted in their study.

Not to mention the child slave labor involved in mining these materials in Africa. But that doesn’t matter.

And they push ethanol gas which pollutes groundwater worse than pure gas.

But they feel real good about it and sodo the farmers.

pollution is less a product of population than government.

They’re not seeing the full picture. As with everything socialists push, before things get better, they’ll first get worse and then they’ll get much, much worse.
OK, so pollution and CO2 will go through the roof for a while...fine, for a long, long time; but, eventually, we’ll be fueling our electric cars with pixie dust and unicorn droppings. Then, the only byproduct will be a rainbow trail out the exhaust pipe!

The only thing that’s important is that liberals have another way to congratulate themselves as they display their virtues for all to see.

The point of liberalism is not to improve society but to control society. If they can use carbon emissions as a pretext to increase their power, it doesn’t matter whether their policies actually reduce emissions or not.

I would like to see a list of all connected to government, including the UN, who have investments in entities in any way tied to the production of batteries.

Electricity as fuel costs twice as much as gasoline. See gasoline gallon equivalent of alternative fuels, particularly the GGE vs. kWh cost. What's the appeal of electricity? That the government can keep you on a cord?

Cost is the most honest indicator of energy consumed during production. All things considered, electricity outputs twice as much CO2 as gasoline. What nut would heat their house with electricity if fossil fuels are available? What nut would want an electric car?

What if the battery lasts three times that long?

“What nut would want an electric car?”

At this point, pretty much every major car manufacturer is targeting having 1/4 to 1/3 of their cars electric vehicles in the near future. I don’t dispute your numbers and facts, but they are obviously banking on growth in electric cars.

Will realization that electric cars are not an environmental panacea change this? Hard to know. I think one of the things that will drive electric car growth is performance (e.g. instant torque and fast acceleration). There is also, for now, the novelty factor.

For people who understand the Left, this comes as absolutely NO SURPRISE, as cutting CO2 never mattered to them, since they haven’t proposed doing a damn thing about China, a country which emits at least twice what we do. Same for India, Brazil etc.

It was never about ‘carbon’ or ‘global warming’, it was always about CONTROL over people, and taking down the West. Just like our public schools are no longer about ‘education’, but instead they are about indoctrination [but what they hell, they’re ‘free’, but that’s for another thread].

But yea, I’m still keeping this article to throw in the faces of Leftists, when necessary.

I miss the days where one could signal virtue by acting with piety and quietly doing good works. Now, virtue is purchased on the showroom floor and driven to display one’s moral superiority.

As proxy servants of the devil - the originator of the victim-entitlement "share the wealth" demand and "occupy" what is not yours movement - who in his selfish war for power and glory against God, perverts or defiles what God has ordained (such as marriage) in creating an alternative world under his dominion. Thus true Christians are to be silenced, as he loathes to see God praised for His benevolent goodness and right judgment, and the ways of the Lord followed to the benefit of man and to the glory of God.

Except CO2 is not a pollutant and at the current 400ppm it is not even a problem.

Speaking of control:

Government and libs are pushing for more electric vehicles on the nation’s roads. Nothing wrong with that, except: where is that vast amount of necessary electricity going to come from?

Windmills and solar farms can’t produce enough. There is opposition to new coal fired plants. There is much more local opposition to new nuclear plants. Seems like natural gas-fired generation is the only currently viable way.

Will government permit enough new generation plants to be built? I rather doubt it. I think they’ll continue to push mass transit to reduce our mobility and increase their span of control.
