Most likely scenario is that the Mexicans were incorrect on where they thought the border boundary was located. Without a wall, there are no lines on the ground. Even the Border Patrol says that the area is very confusing. Further, our guys were in an unmarked vehicle.

One thing to bear in mind is that our peacetime ROEs are there to prevent minor skirmishes from starting a war. That is a decision that belongs soundly in the hands of national leadership - on those rare occasions like now when we actually have any.

Well, he told Syria not to do it again and when they did, over 50 Tomahawks destroyed Syrian facilities and airfields. You always send a warning first especially since no one was hurt.

It’s hard for Americans to grasp how corrupt the Mexican authorities are — and were, long before the first drug cartel cropped up.
Today I heard some pundit speculating that these Mexicans were not actual soldiers.
They’re all on the take, down to the neighborhood cop. It’s baked in. Everyone understands.

Drone strikes/artillery on the cartels and the military that defends them would be a nice development.
Declare the Mexican Drug Cartels are terrorist organizations, and deal with the Mexican government’s collaboration with them. Use the American military with orders to respond if fired at.
