Hubby says that we’re now ahead for the year. By this time in April we normally have had about 2.5 inches and we’ve had a bit over 3. Doesn’t sound like much, but our average yearly rainfall is only about 13 inches. Kind of sad. LOL!

What a relief that the storms you’ll have won’t be severe. A good light show is always a plus for someone who likes lightning as much as you do. It would be even better if the rain missed you since your ground is still so saturated. How are your flowers looking this spring? Are the irises blooming? Mine have sort of...one at a time. So there isn’t much color involved.

Three of my mother’s brothers were at Gallipoli...

ANZAC Day was always a special day when I was a Brownie and a Girl Guide...besides no school...

It seemed the whole town was there...Brownies, Girl Guides, Wolf Cubs, Boy Scouts, members of the RSA (Returned Servicemen’s Association) with their medals and tears, town officials, clergy. mothers with prams, men in their Sunday best, children knowing to be quiet and good....

We started with a church service at our Anglican church or the Catholic church across the street and then lined up and marched down the street a block to the Cenotaph where the etched names from WWI and WWII were read and then wreaths were laid around the base of the needle shaped monument..

It was an honor for we children to be chosen to carry the lovely wreath of flowers representing own group or to be in the honor guard....

Instead of the National Anthem and God Bless America we sang God Save the Queen and God Defend New Zealand...

Yes that was the 50s and early 60s...

Great that you’re ahead for the year. Let’s hope the trend continues.
I haven’t totaled us up but know we’re ahead. The 15 and a half inches we got in Feb. put us way ahead. There’s one area between here and the museum that STILL has standing water from that mess.

I hope they’re right about no severe storms here. It looks like the nasty stuff will stay south of us. There’s a storm kicking out tornados in LA and Brandon is down in that area, lying in wait. His feed keeps going on and off but while it was on a little while ago, there was a lot of lightning flashing in the distance. I had to leave the computer for a bit and now that I have the radar back up, Brandon appears to be in the thick of things right now, and he’s in the middle of nowhere. I hope he’s ok!

Our irises are blooming nicely. The “Immortality” irises Dad sent a few years ago were the first to bloom and they’re still blooming. Now other varieties are starting to show off around the yard. The daffodils and tulips are finished for the year, and the blossoming trees are too. It’s very pretty and green all around now and invigorating to see.

A very pleasant good Thursday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.

How's everyone doing this morning?

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Were you able to go to the lake yesterday?
Did your brother make it home safe and sound?

I’ve got him up now, but it doesn’t seem to be too wild at the moment. I’ll watch a bit and then I need to head out for the night. See ya tomorrow night or will you be up to your eyeballs in Avon. LOL!

Good night then!

His feed goes in and out. He’s behind the storms now. He had to turn around a few minutes ago because a large tree blocked the highway. He was practically run over by the worst storm and I was afraid he was in trouble since his “dot” didn’t turn green for quite a while. What a relief to see it turn green again.

And WOW, what a cool bolt of lightning! Wish I’d gotten a scap of that!

I did take the night off from Clara’s mess and need to get back to it. I know I won’t finished before it gets to hot to work over there but want to get as much done as possible before then.
But ya never know. I might decide to take tomorrow night off too. LOL!

He actually ended up staying here rather than try to dodge the storms. We all went out to Wichita Ridge where we stayed for a few minutes.

It is clearing out though and he should be heading back later today.

It’s probably a good idea to wait another day. That line has produced some nasty weather and is still popping tornados. I’ve been watching one of my favorite storm chasers online for a little while and he was very close to a tornado that ripped through LA. He’s stopped by a substation at the moment where several power lines are laid out across the highway. He had to turn around on a different highway earlier due to a large tree across the road.

Your brother could have run onto something like that had he left yesterday.

Glad you were able to make it out for a while. I hope Gizmo was a good boy and didn’t run your legs off. :-)

Good morning all.

Does anyone know why FR’s URL is NOT Secure?
It seems I have to keep logging off and back on to get secure.

Was fortunate to be able to spend a month in Australia when my son in law was working in Canberra. My grandchildren attended the local school in Franklin instead of the International school to immerse themselves in Australian culture. My 4 year old granddaughter learned all the Australian songs and was beginning to speak with an Australian accent when they moved back to the states. My Daughter sill makes Anzac biscuits and flies the Australian flag on Anzac Day and of course listen to Slim Dusty songs.

I did basically the same trip by train: Brisbane to Broken Hill then bus to Adelaide then train to Kalgoorlie and Perth, then fly to Alice (climbed the Rock) then flew to Cairns, took the train back to Brisbane, flew a jumper to my job in Charleville.

(From “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”)

Now every April I sit on my porch
and watch the parade pass before me.
I see my old comrades, how proudly they march
renewing their days of past glory

I see the old men, all tired, stiff and sore
the weary old heroes of a forgotten war
and the young people ask “What are they marchin’ for?”
And I ask myself the same question.

And the band played Waltzing Matilda
as the old men still answer the call;
but year after year their numbers get fewer,
some day no one will march there at all.
