Group’s longtime leader says Oliver North, president of the NRA, wants him out

Longtime National Rifle Association leader Wayne LaPierre has told the group’s board he is being extorted and pressured to resign by the organization’s president, Oliver North, over allegations of financial improprieties, in an extraordinary battle roiling one of the nation’s most powerful nonprofit political groups.

In a letter sent to NRA board members late Thursday afternoon, LaPierre, the group’s CEO and executive vice president, said he refused the demand. Instead he called on board members to “see this for what it is: a threat meant to intimidate and divide us.”

North sent his own letter to the board late Thursday evening, in which he said his actions were for the good of the NRA and that he was forming a crisis committee to examine financial matters inside the organization, according to people familiar with its contents.

This is how satan attacks his enemies.

Children will turn against their parents, brother against brother.

Uh oh. This is probably not a sign of good health in the NRA.

“...$200,000 of wardrobe purchases by LaPierre that were charged to a vendor, according to the people....”

Geez ... seems a bit excessive to me.

I’ve read that Wayne LaPierre has been caving on a lot of gun issues. It might not be a bad thing if he’s ousted, especially if he’s been stealing from the membership.

That is excessive. Makes my mind wander and wonder if he was buying items for someone else.

LaPierre has had that gig for a long time now - it’s possible that he hasn’t adhered to the straight and narrow. Human weaknesses are among the big reasons for routine audits and such.

So, run an audit— like any professional organization would do.

You might want to brush up on the situation before invoking Satan:

Stop. Oliver North is not a child. It sounds like he is tightly concerned about how funds are being spent. If Wayne has done nothing wrong this is a non issue

They have made some poor decisions lately. Like jumping on the band wagon to ban bump stocks.

They need to get with the program and attack the root of all gun control which is and always has been the NFA/GCA. There should never have been an issue with bump stocks because they should have never had any reason to exist. The 2nd Amendment specifically protects the rights of Americans to own machine guns, short barrel shotguns, suppressors and any other weapons that our government uses. There is no reason for state and local cops and tens of thousands of non military federal agents to possess thousands of machine guns while at the same time they are banned for the American people who they are to serve.

I've always liked Wayne Lapierre but if he is standing in the way of putting the full force of the NRA into reclaiming our 2nd amendment rights then maybe this is a good thing.

I have long thought Mr. LaPierre has served the NRA well, from what I could see, but it was time to bring in a new voice and a different face. Dana Loesch would do an excellent job. She would also be likely to convince more women to learn about using and carrying. The more the merrier!

Calling suppressors 'machine guns' is especially idiotic. I don't know much of the history of the 1930's NFA, but I'd bet there were more than a few statists/communists involved in it's formulation and passage.

I don’t question North’s integrity. Let the evidence speak for itself.

Wayne’s been there a long time, perhaps too long. If an organization needs to fight, the guys at the top can’t be too comfortable.
