President Trump tweeted Saturday that Fox News analyst Andrew Napolitano met with him and urged the president to nominate Napolitano to the Supreme Court, as well as grant a pardon to one of the judge's friends.
Napolitano, a former superior court judge in New Jersey, currently works as a legal analyst for Fox News. In a pair of tweets Saturday evening following his campaign rally in Green Bay, the president accused the commentator of becoming "very hostile" after Trump supposedly turned him down for the nation's highest court.
"Thank you to brilliant and highly respected attorney Alan Dershowitz for destroying the very dumb legal argument of Judge Andrew Napolitano," Trump wrote.
"Ever since Andrew came to my office to ask that I appoint him to the U.S. Supreme Court, and I said NO, he has been very hostile! Also asked for pardon for his friend. A good 'pal' of low ratings Shepard Smith," the president added, referring to the afternoon host of Fox's newscast that has often been critical of the White House.
The White House did not immediately return a request for comment on when the conversation with Napolitano occurred, or to whom the Fox News commentator had supposedly asked Trump to pardon.
Trump frequently showers praise on Fox News figures that are seen as allies of his administration, including Dershowitz who has frequently defended the president amid the now-concluded investigation into Russian election interference and his campaign.
Knee capped.
On the Supreme Court? That guys not even qualified enough to merit an Obama nomination.
Napolitano has made plenty of positive comments about the President too.
And I trust dersh as far as I can throw him.
Either way, Trump has sent some brutal tweets to people with whom he was right as the mail with a week later.
Even friends argue.
I have had such great hope for Truump. He really need not step so low. Why would he say that abou Nap even if true and I have always thought Nap really dumb and often wrong about the law.
Can someone please temper the Prez?
I just realized that nearly everyone that gets turned down by Trump becomes bitter and angry. Why can’t these people just accept Trump for who he is and not hold it against him? The man wants results and doesn’t play games with trading horse favors. No wonder why people like Napolitano and Amarosa and Pruitt are bitter as Hell. Do your F’ing jobs!
Yeah, let’s return of the good old days of Bush and Rove when they assumed the fetal position when the Left attacked them.
So that’s how Nappy became a #NeverTrumper.
Now his current actions make more sense.
Yes. My thoughts as well.
Trump apparently isn’t playing the establishment glad handling game the way they expect it to be played.
Nap does not belong on a traffic court....let alone the SCOUTS. The guy is a legal imbecile.
He’s a virulent anti-trump hater. Nice job by the prez liking him to his fellow pillow-biter Shep Smith.
They hate him so much because he hits back. Which is why the rest of us like him!
Going to disagree with you... he’s wicked smart but should never have predicated his loyalty on his appointment or pardon. He’s a smart dude.... but misplayed his hand.
He fights asymmetrically. He has to.
When someone stupid wont shut up, sometimes you have to cram reality down their throat.
Its been the judge whos been wrong, and hes been lambasting Trump for not doing his bidding.
Shut the judge down!
No.
Napolitano should have just shut his mouth, but he couldn’t. His ego just got the better of him.
When Trump is attacked, he doesn’t turtle like every other Republican for the last 30 years. He fights back.
Napolitano brought this on himself.
The Nap had it coming. POTUS has always been a counter puncher.
For him to have been a former superior court judge in New Jersey, Napolitano has made some serious judicial errors on FoxNews over the years.
I wouldn’t appoint him to judge a junior high science fair.
