That’s the second time I’ve seen the Norfolk base called the Norfolk Naval Station. The other had to do with the submarine pens.
Have they changed the name? When I was stationed there, it was NOB, Naval Operations Base.
As for the Enterprise, she once came in to seas a little too rough for her to tie up, so they sent liberty parties to shore via helicopter. It was quite a sight seeing a bridge of choppers extending from the ship to the helicopter landing pads across the street from where I was.

I have not seen Doug in months, always enjoyable to talk music and girls with.
He played for the USN jazz band and then became professional with several large bands.
I asked about him tonight at the VFW post.
Been trying to raise money for an Ampeg Baby Bass for him, he is shrinking in his old age and can no longer play a full sized upright bass.
