That’s the second time I’ve seen the Norfolk base called the Norfolk Naval Station. The other had to do with the submarine pens.

Have they changed the name? When I was stationed there, it was NOB, Naval Operations Base.

As for the Enterprise, she once came in to seas a little too rough for her to tie up, so they sent liberty parties to shore via helicopter. It was quite a sight seeing a bridge of choppers extending from the ship to the helicopter landing pads across the street from where I was.
